It's saying my business miles are greater than my total miles.

Hello, patrick. We are happy to see you here in the Community with your concern about your business mileage being greater than the total mileage in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE). Let us share some insights about it.

We can understand the importance of tracking mileage in our program. If you're automatically tracking mileage in QBSE, normally, you'll have greater business mileage than the total mileage. QuickBooks automatically detects and tracks everything from start to finish. Also, it uses the standard mileage method to estimate your tax deductions. To calculate the deduction, QuickBooks multiplies your total business miles by the current rate per mile set by the IRS. Even though QuickBooks uses the standard mileage method, you don't have to use it when you file your taxes. You can calculate your actual vehicle expenses and miles traveled, which is known as the actual expenses method.

If you want to keep your business mileage in sync with what's on your QuickBooks total mileage, you'll want to manually track or add mileage. See this article for details: Manually track mileage in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

It's saying my business miles are greater than my total miles.

I'm having the same issue and your response doesn't fix the problem.  I've used the mileage tracker, I have a small amount of business miles and it won't let me complete my taxes and send to turbo tax because i keep getting the error that my business miles are greater than my total miles. There is no apparent remedy.

It's good to see you here in the Community, @millersjam. I'm here to help you get rid of the error so you can complete taxes and send them to turbo tax.

The error you received indicates you'll need to correct the total miles. You can do so under the Tax info to ensure your business miles match or are less than your total miles. Let me guide you on how.

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Self-Employed account.
  2. Select the Gear icon, then click Vehicle info.
  3. Choose your vehicle and then pick the Tax year.
  4. Press the Tax info dropdown to choose how you want to record mileage. From there, you can make the necessary changes.

Once done, check out this article to proceed with transmitting your tax info to TurboTax: Send QuickBooks Self-Employed tax info to TurboTax Self-Employed or Live.
