Manually track mileage in QuickBooks Self-Employed

Learn how to add a trip to QuickBooks Self-Employed.
If you travel for work and plan to write-off your trips, use the QuickBooks Self-Employed app to automatically track your mileage. All you have to do is turn on the app and let QuickBooks take care of the rest.
If you forgot your device on a trip or didn't turn it on, you can always enter the mileage yourself. Here's how to manually add trips in QuickBooks Self-Employed.
Step 1: Set up automatic milage tracking
If you haven't already, turn on automatic mileage tracking. You don't have to use the feature, but you need to set it up before you can add trips.
Step 2: Add a trip manually
On a web browser
- Select Miles.
- Edit the Date.
- (Optional) Add a start and end address.
- Enter the distance in the Add miles field.
- Add a Trip purpose note.
- When you're done, select Save.
On an iOS device (iPhone or iPad)
- Select the Mileage menu.
- Select the Plus icon (+) and then Create trip.
- Enter the trip details.
- When you're done, select Save.
On an Android device (phone or tablet)
- Select the Menu ☰ icon.
- Select the Mileage menu.
- Select the Plus icon (+) and then Add business trip.
- Enter the trip details.
- When you're done, select Save.
Next steps: Edit or delete an existing trip
- Go to the Miles or Mileage menu.
- Select the Reviewed tab.
- Find and select the trip.
- Select Edit.
- Make your change. Then select Save.
To delete a trip, find and open it. Then select the Trash can icon (on a browser or for Android) or Delete Trip (iPhone).
