@Kensrec  I can't speak to whether some tech wizard can help you, and I don't know your payroll process, but most people's payroll processes involve keeping at least some variety of record keeping.

This can involve filing the time sheet or, ideally, keeping a copy of the stub if you print paychecks on the tri-fold checks.

It is also possible that Intuit would have the data, if you used Direct Deposit.

If none of these apply, and you're a close-knit company with relatively few employees, I suppose you could also reach out to them for their stubs, but that's really a question for you.

Otherwise, you might be stuck.

For future reference, best practice is to regularly back-up your QuickBooks file to an external hard drive. Daily would be great, but you should be doing it at least every three or four times you close the program.

It's possible to retrieve them if you send payroll data to Intuit, Kensrec. Let's collaborate so you can review the details and ensure your employees will receive their pay on time.

When you send payroll to Intuit, you can retrieve those payroll information by contacting our Payroll Support team. They can look into your account securely and provide detailed information regarding the payroll you processed on 10/25/2024. You can click this direct link to reach them: QuickBooks Desktop Payroll.

Also, you can restore or recover your backup file in QuickBooks Desktop. It let's you return to one of your save points if you encounter problems. However, if your backup company file is on an external device like a USB or a hosting service like Box, you'll need to move it to your local hard drive first. Then, follow the steps below:

  1. In QuickBooks, go to the File menu and select Open or Restore Company.
  2. Select Restore a backup copy and then Next.
  3. Select Local Backup and then Next.
  4. Browse your computer for your backup company file. It should look like this: [Your company name].qbb.
  5. Select a folder to decide where to save your restored company file. Then select Open.
  6. Click Save.

For more details about restoring back up file, open this link: Restore a backup of your company file.

@Kensrec

What do you mean with "cannot recovery my quickbooks"?

Did you encounter problem reinstalling QB?

Can you secure any company file (e.g *.qbw, *.qbb, *.adr) from the crashed computer?

They are still working on the hard drive.  But on the new computer when I download quickbooks, I put in my license number and activated the account.  However, there is no record of the payroll account.  I followed the instructions for downloading and there is no record transfers.  It is like starting over from brand new.

Thanks for the response, Kensrec. Let me help you proceed with recovering your payroll data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Now that you’ve got QuickBooks set up with your credentials, it’s time to activate your payroll subscription. You can count on me to guide you through the process.

The activation steps will vary depending on how you purchased your subscription. If you've purchased online or by phone, you should've received a 16-digit service key via email. Here's how to enter this key in QuickBooks:

  1. Open the company file.
  2. On the top menu, go to Employees, then My Payroll Service.
  3. Click Activate Service Key, and then Add.Activate Service Key.png
  4. Enter your service key.
  5. Press Next, then Finish.

Once you’ve completed these steps, wait for the new Tax Table to download fully. After that, you can proceed to retrieve your payroll data.

For full-service subscriptions or QuickBooks Desktop Assisted Payroll, it’s best to contact our dedicated support team for recovery assistance. Here’s how to reach them:

  2. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help/Contact Us.
  3. Click Contact Us.
