We switched over to OQB from DTQB in 2023. Our previous accountant manually completed the tax forms, but we cannot locate them. I want to create new 2022 940 and 941s copies through OQB.
Completing the most recent 940/941s is easy, but what about older periods? Will OQB generate 2023 forms as it does for 2024? Or do I need to pull the corresponding reports for the info?
TIA
You can no longer generate tax forms from older periods in QuickBooks Online (QBO), MrsAmerica. I'm here to share information to help you acquire a copy of your 940 and 941 forms for 2022.
Historical payroll data are not automatically moved when migrating from QuickBooks Desktop to QBO. You can review this material for more details: Learn how features and data move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.
In QBO Payroll, only the tax forms for the current fiscal year are available. That said, creating 940 and 941 copies for 2022 is not possible. Hence, you can get a copy of the previously filed forms from the Internal Revenue Service.
On the other hand, if you need to review your past forms and payments in QBO, you can browse this article for guidance: View your previously filed tax forms and payments.
We're just a click away if you have inquiries about getting payroll forms or reports from previous years in QuickBooks Online Payroll. Please stay in touch through the Reply button.
You can use QB Desktop Enterprise Gold for free to open your old company file and access/file 940/941.
