I can see how that situation is affecting you, Dena. If your Gusto payroll data is syncing with QuickBooks Online (QBO), and you're assigning the entry to accounts manually, there could be several reasons why the entry isn't saving. Let me discuss it further below.

First, confirm that the Gusto to QBO sync is complete, as issues can result in incomplete entries. Second, double-check your account allocations for any mistakes. Finally, if you're using an older version of QuickBooks Online, the save button may not register changes.

Here's a more detailed look at potential issues:

  • If the sync between Gusto and QuickBooks is incomplete, the journal entry in QBO might be missing some crucial information or account mappings. You can try re-syncing the payroll from Gusto by going to the Pay section in Gusto, selecting Pay history, and then syncing the specific payroll you're having trouble with.
  • Ensure the sync between Gusto and QuickBooks is active and functioning correctly.
  • Secure that each payroll item in Gusto is linked to its corresponding account in QuickBooks. For example, employee salaries should be assigned to the appropriate salary expense account.

After syncing, carefully review the journal entry in QuickBooks to ensure that all accounts are allocated accurately.

Moreover, if the save button is not working, refresh the page or use a different browser, as this can help address any session-related issues that affect the functionality.

If you need to make corrections or adjustments to the journal entry after syncing, I recommend consulting an accountant to ensure the corrections are accurate and comply with accounting standards.

For your ongoing reference, check out this article to learn how to categorize transactions in QBO: Categorize online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Once you have tried refreshing the page or using a different browser and are still facing the same issue, your next step is to clear your browser's cache or check for updates. If you have more questions, let us know by using the reply button below.
