QBO sent instructions telling us to change the Uneem ins. rt.

Obligation Assessment tax. Do I really have to call customer service to do what they asked me to do in a mass email to all using QBO in Texas?

QBO sent instructions telling us to change the Uneem ins. rt.

I'm here to share further details about that update, jthomas1234.

The Texas Workforce Commission delayed the setting of the employer’s unemployment insurance tax rates to allow for more time for the continuing economic recovery to play out. They've also added Obligation Assessment for 2021 at .03%.

If you're QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Premium, or Elite, I'd recommend contacting our Payroll Support Team. They can help you update your SUI rate and answer your additional questions about the new tax update. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help icon.
  2. Select Talk to a human.
  3. Enter "Talk to a human" again in the search bar.
  4. Choose I still need a human, then click Contact us.
  5. Select Get a callback or Send a message to start a conversation.

Although, you can follow these steps in updating your SUI rate. Here's how to do it in Payroll Core, Premium, and Elite:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then choose Payroll settings.
  2. Next to the state you want to update, click the Edit icon.
  3. In the State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) Setup section, select Change or add new rate.
  4. Leave the OA field blank, then add the OA rate of 0.03% onto the UI rate.
  5. Enter its effective date, then hit OK to save the changes.
  6. If you have already created paychecks with the wrong rate, or need to correct a prior quarter rate, you'll have to contact us.

For QuickBooks Online Payroll Enhanced:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Payroll settings, then select State Taxes.
  3. In the State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) Setup section, click Change or add new rate.
  4. Leave the OA field blank, then add the OA rate of 0.03% onto the UI rate.
  5. Enter its effective date, then hit OK to save the changes.
  6. If you have already created paychecks with the wrong rate, the program will retroactively adjust your paychecks to correct your tax liability.

Lastly, here's an article that you can read to know how Quickbooks calculates the SUI rate and learn how to check it in your account: Find your State Unemployment Insurance (SUI) rate.

Drop me a comment below if you have any other concerns or follow-up questions about taxes. I'll be around to help.

as of July 26, 2021 I am still not able to change by Obligation Assessment Rate to .03% in intuit payroll state tax set up.  The due date is July 30, 2021 for these taxes.  Do you know when Intuit is going to update the TEXAS Obligation Assessment Rate choices?  Only choice in drop down menu is 0.0%.
