QuickBooks Online changing legal address with IRS

I was recently told by a QuickBooks Online support agent that the IRS will not accept Post Office box address as a legal address.  This has forced several client to use location addresses that do not receive mail delivery and therefore do no receive any notices that the IRS may mail out.

I work for a CPA firm, we electronically file returns with the IRS annually or IT department is still rolling on the floor laughing as this ludicrous.  Anyone else have the same experience?

QuickBooks Online changing legal address with IRS

Good day to you, @Unhappy Camper.

I appreciate you for sharing your thoughts with me, and yes, it’s best to use a legal address to ensure your clients receive mail from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Since some of your clients are using addresses that are not accessible by mail, it would be best to contact the IRS. There, they can provide you with the best advice on how your clients can receive emails by their current address.

Furthermore, I’m adding this article as a reference in case you’ll need to print payroll tax forms in QuickBooks Online (QBO):

I’ll be around if you have other follow-up questions about filing taxes in IRS. Take care and stay well.
