LIMITED TIME 90% OFF QuickBooks for 3 months*
Buy nowI have been having a problem for some time now where QB payroll does not submit EFT payments for payroll taxes on time when it is set up for autopay.
It used to be that we would run payroll on one month, and the payroll taxes would be due by the 15th of the following month (ex. 1/1/22 payroll would be due on 2/15/22). Because of the amount of payroll we are running now, the IRS has previously sent us a letter that payroll taxes must be submitted IMMEDIATELY upon running payroll. Quickbooks does not recognize this issue and continued paying on the 15th of the following month which led me to be fined by the IRS for a sizable amount.
I called and was told that the QB payroll dates WERE right (despite definitely not being in my case) and that if I wanted to pay at a different date, I would have to do it manually.
This is becoming extremely burdensome. My family got sick and I forgot to process it for about two weeks and wound up with another sizable bill from the IRS. Why is there no way for QB payroll to process EFT transfers to the IRS upon running payroll? It's ridiculous that it is on me to manually go into the system and click pay for all of our employees when payroll is run. Is there a solution to this?
QB customer service continues to tell me that the due date in payroll is correct. It is not, and they have no idea what they're talking about which is so frustrating.
Thanks for reaching out to the Community, xing6666. I appreciate your detailed information.
Since you're using automatic payroll tax payments through Intuit, there isn't a way to specify when your taxes are paid. Intuit pays them on the earliest possible date after a liability period ends.
If you'd like more control over making your tax payments and form filings, you can turn off the automatic payments and filings feature.
Here's how:
After turning the automation off, you can make payments with agencies, then record each payment manually into your books.
I've also included a detailed resource about working with automatic tax payments and filings which may come in handy moving forward: Manage automatic tax payments & form filings
I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
I currently have automatic payments turned off because of this problem, but that makes my life so much more difficult because I have to manually submit tax payments for three separate employees after every payroll. If I forget, bam, I get hit with fines. It is a glaring omission and I will have to look for another solution for our payroll if there is no other option other than manually submitting every tax payment or having the payment be processed incorrectly and late by QB.
This software is supposed to make my life easier which it is currently not doing.
