Thank you for contacting us, Keags.

I'm glad to clarify things out about the reported amount that will show in the 1096 form.

The amount reflected in 1096 is total summary of your 1099s. Just make sure to enter the correct information, then print and submit it to the IRS.

Let me guide you through printing the form:

  1. Go to Expenses, then Vendors.
  2. Click Prepare 1099s.
  3. Enter all the information correctly for the tax year.
  4. Select Print and mail.
  5. Choose the 1096 form. If everything looks good, select Yes, looks good!
  6. Click Print on a 1096 Form.
  7. If the form needs to be aligned, select No, it doesn't line up and click Next.
  8. Then, re-select the 1096 form and click Print on a 1096 Form.

QBO only allows you to file 1099s once. You'll want perform steps 1- 4 provided above, then choose 1099 form. You need to print a new paper form to amend them. Just fill them in and mark the Corrected box, then manually send them by mail to the IRS.

I also suggest running the 1099 Transaction Detail Report in QBO. This shows all transactions and total amount for each contractor and their account number, tax ID, with splits.

I'm glad to walk you through pulling it up:

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. Under Expenses and Vendors, click 1099 Transaction Detail Report.
  3. Click Run report.
