Join nowYes, you can add an international employee that has no Social Security Number, johnson. I'll go over some details on how.
You must have your employee provide their visa or SSN information by filling out the I-9 Form (Employment Eligibility Verification). Both US citizens and non-citizens are included in this. After completion, you can start recording payroll, but you will need to use a third-party provider for payroll remittance.
Browse the following web pages to get a copy of the form:

Hello Michelle - thanks for your response.
Need your help pls. I've prepared the I-9 Forms and have them signed. Next step is adding them as employees on Quickbooks but SSN is still a required field. please advise on how to proceed.
Thank you.
Thanks for the update, Johnson . I'll guide you through the following steps so you can proceed with adding your employees to QuickBooks.
Since the I-9 forms have already been signed, the IRS can assign a unique number to your employees. In this case, I recommend contacting them and ask your employee's SSN.

An employee, who is not a US citizen (referred to by the IRS as a Nonresident Alien or NRA) may be exempt from certain payroll taxes based on their visa type.
First, determine which payroll taxes your employee is exempt from based on their visa type. Once you have this information, proceed to add the employee and exempt the relevant payroll taxes accordingly.
Here's how:
Also, where your employees live and work determines the state payroll taxes you and your employees are subject to. Here is a link you can use as a future guide for QuickBooks Online: Set up employees and payroll taxes in a new state.
Let me know if you need further assistance in adding your employee to payroll. I'm always here to help. Have a great day.
Hello,
I am in search for the same answer and the above is not conclusive. My employee does not have a SSN neither a visa. They don't live in the US neither aspire to, they rather do remote services from over seas.
Is there a way to get them paid via our small business Intuit accout?
Thank you,
Mike Jucker
