Can I keep QBOnline from auto-generating my year-end W2 (so an amended W2 doesn't have to be filed) so my accountant can make the necessary additions to it?

It's my pleasure to assist your form filing concern, yourchirodoc.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), if you have Payroll Core, Premium, or Elite and auto pay and file enabled, we handle your W-2 form. Otherwise, turn off the feature by following the steps below:

  1. Click the Gear icon and select Payroll Settings.
  2. In the Taxes and forms section, click the edit pencil icon.
  3. Clear the Automate taxes and forms checkbox.
  4. Hit Save, and then Done.

For QBO Payroll Enhanced, we'll not file your W-2 form. You'll have to do it manually. I've got this article for more information: Print your W-2 forms.

To check your payroll plan, follow these procedures:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under Profile, select Subscription and billing.
  3. Check your payroll plan.

For future reference, here are some resources to help you get ready during tax season:

Leave me a comment below if you have other payroll concerns. I'd be happy to work with you again. Take care!

It sounds as though it will be a global stop of everything vs just a stop to the W-2 as I would like to do?

Thanks for the prompt response, yourchirodoc. I'm joining this thread to clarify a few things about how automatically paying and filing taxes work with QuickBooks Online (QBO).

You're correct that turning off the Automate taxes and forms feature will stop everything regarding automatically paying and filing your payroll taxes and forms. It's indeed convenient to be able to choose what forms can be automatically filed from the QuickBooks program. However, that option is currently unavailable.

We strive to deliver high-quality service to our users, and our utmost priority is ensuring our product is user-friendly. With this, I recommend sharing the idea with our Product Developers about having the option to choose what payroll forms the system will automatically file. Depending on the number of users ' requests, they can review and consider them for future updates.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Then select Next to submit feedback.

Additionally, check out this article to learn more about viewing your payroll tax payments and forms in QBO: View your previously filed tax forms and payments.

Whenever you have any concerns about payroll forms, feel free to let me know. I would be happy to provide you with additional assistance. Stay safe, and have a great day!
