My computer was giving me issues shortly after a Windows Update and became inaccessible. I had it serviced and there was apparently some type of issue with the hardware. A Data Recovery was performed; however not all files were transferable as some were corrupt. One of the files not recoverable were my QB Company Files. Windows had to be reinstalled and the computer was basically restored to its original settings.
The most recent backup file that I was able to locate was in January 2020. This results in over eight (8) months of lost data. My biggest concern is the months of lost payroll data. What would be the best avenue to recreate the information? I do have hardcopies of all of the employees' pay stubs.
I was wondering too. The January 2020 file does not have all transactions reconciled for the Company's 2019 Fiscal Year. I did provide the Accountant with an Accountant's Copy from January 01, 2019 through December 31, 2019. There were accountant changes. Would it even be possible to integrate the accountant changes since the January 2020 file did not have 2019 fully reconciled? The Accountant's Copy was pulled from the system in August.
Unfortunately, that option isn't available. My Computer was basically reset back to factory settings by Tech Services. None of my QB files were recovered when they did a Data Recovery.
You may prepare all historical data in XLS and utilize one of these importer tools.

For payroll historical data, you may import them as JE.
I am in the same position - what was your resolution ?
Thanks for joining the thread and looking for solutions to restore your company file, @SharkNY1.
Let me share with you insights on how you can retrieve your lost data. Once a computer is hard reset, it will be uneasy for you to retrieve the files. However, you may want to reach your IT professional to recover your company file data in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
On the other hand, you can use the Auto Data Recovery (ADR) feature in QBDT that may allow you to retrieve all or most of your data. You can check this article to review the limitation and process: Recover lost data with QuickBooks Auto Data Recovery.
Also, if you have a backup copy of your company file, you can restore them in QBDT. If you have at least eight months or more lost payroll data, you can follow Fiat Lux Asia's recommendation to use an Excel and the third-party importer tool or use a CSV file and install the QuickBooks Import Excel and CSV toolkit.
This includes a CSV Examples Folder that you can use as a reference. If you need further assistance, it includes the Import from Excel and CSV Manual. It's a PDF file with instructions, as well as best practices for this process. Check out this article for more details: Import/export CSV files.
You can also view this article to use IIF files to import data: Export, import, and edit IIF files. It includes a table with a list of all the things you can import from QBDT.
Let me know if you have other questions about using QBDT tools and recovering data. I'll be around to help you out. Have a great day!
