customizing quickbooks paystub with Customer: Job

I've used the "memo" line but is tedious and archaic to type out my detail when all i really need is to customize the "earnings and Hours" section to include the "CUSTOMER: JOB" detail on the stub...are these customizations not possible for the paystub?

I'll share details to help with your question about paystubs, belowradar.

At the moment, we're unable to customize the appearance of the paystub to add the job details. You can continue using the Memo section to indicate the details that you need.

QuickBooks let's you change these details in the paystub:

  • Vacation & Sick used.  Enter a term in the Print as box to change how the term prints on the voucher or pay stub (such as PTO or flextime).
  • Legal company name
  • Federal employer identification number
  • DBA company name
  • Company phone number
  • Non-taxable company items
  • Employee social security number.
Based on your state's requirements, employee SSNs may not be removed from pay stubs, but you can choose to only display the four digits.
  • Only the last four digits of SSNs and bank account numbers.
  • Hours for salaried employees. Due to legal requirements, salary hours cannot be removed from pay stubs.
  • Standard font size or Large font size
  • Print Intuit logo

Additional information about this are discussed here: Set Payroll Preferences in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll.

In the meantime, you can send feedback to our engineers. Feedback and feature requests ca be submitted directly from your company file. Here's how:

this is a change that needs to be made and should be very easy to do since you are all ready collecting the data.  All you need to do is go one step further and associate the employee name with the job cost.

With that said, I have some exciting news to share with you! We've recently added a feature that allows you to add customer/job on the check stub, making it a lot easier to track costs and allocate them correctly.

To do this in your QuickBooks Online Payroll account, I recommend following the step-by-step guidance shared below. I've also included screenshots for your visual reference.

If you want to add the customer/job to your newly created paychecks, please perform these steps:

  1. Go to the Payroll menu and then select Employees.
  2. Choose Run payroll.
  3. Select a pay schedule for this payroll, then hit Continue.
  4. Click Edit classes & projects.
  5. Under the Customer/Project column, select the name you want to include.
  6. Once completed, hit Confirm.
  7. Click Preview payroll once the paycheck stub info is correct, then hit Submit payroll.

However, if you want to add a customer/job to the previously created paychecks, we can manually modify them to apply the changes. I'll show you how:

  1. From the Payroll menu, select Employees.
  2. Click the Paycheck list link.
  3. Locate the check stub you want to edit, then click it.
  4. Select Make adjustment, then Edit.
  5. Choose the Edit classes & projects button.
  6. Under the Customer/Project column, select the name you want to include.
  7. Once completed, hit Confirm.
  8. After that, hit Save.

Finally, you can run various payroll reports in your QuickBooks account to get a closer look at your business' finances and view important information about your employees.
