Thanks for participating in the thread, @jf24.
As of now, our product engineer is still working on it. Please don't change anything on your employees' paycheck yet until the setup for Social Security (SS) payroll tax deferral is finished in QuickBooks Online (QBO). This way, we can guarantee you'll have the accurate payrolls.
Once this is already available in QBO, here's how you can set up employee deferral in your account.
Once done, you can now process payroll to your employees. Simply click the Run Payroll from the screen, then enter the corresponding hours and select choose either Employee Retention Credit Regular for regular hours or Employee Retention Credit Overtime for overtime hours.
For more information, please check out this article: How to set up and track the Employee Retention Credit under the CARES Act.
Additionally, for more information about the Presidential Memorandum for deferral of employee Social security, please refer to the IRS website: FAQs: Employee Retention Credit under the CARES Act.

What about people with Intuit Online Payroll? Will an email be sent out with instructions?
Thank you for joining the thread, @ChristinaTIC.
Yes, once our Payroll Compliance Team implement this tax deferral order, an email will be sent to your email address associated with your company file.
Once you've received it, you can now set employee deferral in your Intuit Online Payroll account. Here's how:
After setting it up, you can run your payroll using the pay types you created. For more guidance, feel free to check out this article: How to set up and track the Employee Retention Credit under the CARES Act.

What about for Quickbooks Desktop? Any word on how to do it from there?
Hi! What about for QuickBooks Desktop? Any word on implementation?
Good day, Tiffani907.
We still don't have any updates for both QuickBooks Online and Desktop Payroll services. We'll definitely let you know as soon as soon as the new tax relief is available in the program. Please keep an eye for any email notifications or pop-up messages inside QuickBooks so you can immediately install the update once it's available.
Make sure to run a payroll report once in a while. This will give you a quick glance of the payroll transactions that you've made so far. Just go to the Reports menu, click Employees and Payroll, and then select a report.
The Community is always here if you need anything else.
What if we do want to participate.?
it’s September 11, and Intuit has done nothing to address this. We have employees asking for this
We have employees asking for this. How much longer will we wait
Same here.
Please
include me in any updates
Agree. Update your site please
What the reason for the delay? This is not a difficult programming issue. ADP has this implemented.
Also still having problems with the new direct deposit system. No direct deposit for a client since JULY!
Maybe it's time, after 15 years, to dump QB's. Not very quick anymore!!!!!!
This isn’t the kind of service I want you to experience, @JJohnson6584.
As of now, I’m unable to provide a specific time as to when the new tax relief will be available in the program. Rest assured our engineering team is working closely with the IRS to ensure you’ll have the accurate payroll data.
You can also check out this link for reference about the latest payroll news and updates in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
Also, you’ll want to ensure the account used for the Direct Deposit (DD) has enough funds to avoid any delays. For more information and troubleshooting steps in fixing DD issues in QuickBooks, I recommend checking this article for reference: Fix direct deposit issues.
I’m always around whenever you need help with your QBDT software. Feel free to leave a reply below and I’ll answer it for you.
This generic response is unacceptable! QB needs to do something NOW!
Not sure why you're sending direct deposit funding information. My problem with direct deposits has nothing to do with funding balances. It has to do with the inability of your programmers to get direct deposit to work for one of my clients. I've been on the phone with your support team four different times, for over 6 hours. Two of your employees logged onto my computer and still could not get direct deposit set up for one of my clients. After wasting hours of my time, one of the Intuit employees finally admitted you have 27 (twenty seven!) pages of clients who have the same problem. 27 pages! They said the programmers are working on it. They've been working on it since June! So I have a client that I can't process direct deposits for because your new direct deposit system isn't working.
Now I'm dealing with the inefficiency of overwriting social security taxes in payroll due to your inability to implement a very simple programming change based on a law passed last month. Your inability to get this done on a timely basis is unacceptable.
ADP is NOT participating in the deferral program.
ADP is NOT participating in the Executive Order:
Same here. This is taking much to long for QB to fix this. Already missed one payroll and we have another this week.
When will it be ready?!
I know that this hasn't been easy for you and your business, sc54.
We're still unable to provide a specific date as to when the new tax relief will be available in QuickBooks Online and Desktop. Please know that our engineers are prioritizing this feature to be added as soon as possible. Additionally, we'll be sending email notifications once it has been implemented so you'll be able to update your QuickBooks.
For now, I encourage visiting our blog from time to time to stay current with all the QuickBooks news.
If you need some reference in completing your other tasks in QuickBooks, feel free to check our articles here.
I'm just a post away if you have further questions or any other concerns. Stay safe and healthy.
I would like to know this as well!
Can we at least get an ETA... I understand that you don't have a specific date, but can we expect this in September or October?
Why do you keep posting the "latest payroll news and updates" link when that last update was from JULY!!!!????
How is this helpful?
This is ridiculous. We are two weeks into the mandatory tax deferral with no way to comply with it! What am I supposed to do with my employees???
The blog you keep referencing is TWO MONTHS OLD. How exactly is that helpful?
We cannot comply with a Presidential Executive Order because of the ineptitude of Intuit here.
What am I supposed to do for my employees?????
Just adding my name to the ineptitude of QB "Engineers" who have not gotten this figured out and it is 17 days into when we should've been able to implement this. It isn't like it came out of left field. It's been discussed for months. Come on QB! We pay quite a bit of money for this service to be updated and current.
I have QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2020 (which I love) and one employee that qualifies for the Social Security Deferral (employee portion) that came into effect Sept 1st. Payroll is supposed to be done tomorrow. Can you PLEASE tell me how to handle her check????
