We have a client whose payroll was hacked. The payroll went out on Tuesday and the hack was discovered right away. They closed the bank account and opened a new one that same day. The direct deposits were voided and never cleared the bank. However, Intuit is saying that the company owes Intuit for the 2 direct deposit payroll checks that were voided and never cleared. How can we clear this up? and get the company back into good standing?
I can see the benefit of having this resolved right away, @Bcm12. To get immediate assistance and verify if your payroll account is being hacked, we urge you to call our support team in Quickbooks Online Payroll.

This looks like this is a multi-year long thread. I too have been waiting for days to get the direct deposit activation to work. Have uploaded all the "stuff" Intuit wants to OK it. Ridiculous it takes this long. I am asking myself why I have been using Quickbooks for so many years after many years of terrible support. Does anybody remember when phone support cost by the minute? I think I helped the CEO to add a wing to his house.
I am running into the same issue. No one seems to be able to help. Very frustrating. Did you ever solve the issue?
I completely understand how frustrating it can be to encounter obstacles like activation error codes, @lathamgravel. To help you get through this, I have some solutions to resolve the error code 40010 and isolate the issue.
Before we take this to our support, I have some solutions to help you resolve the error code 40010 and isolate this issue.
First, let's ensure you're signed in as an administrator of the company file to activate the Direct Deposit service. Please go to the File menu, then select Close Company/Log off. Then, sign in with your admin credentials.
If you logged in as an admin, have you tried doing the Verify/Rebuild process? If not, I suggest running it to fix the error code.
Infrequently, a data issue within the company file (possibly your admin login) can prevent you from activating the Direct Deposit service. Here's how to run the utility:
Alternatively, using the Tool Hub utility can also help you fix any data or component issues in the program. Please refer to the steps from this article to get started: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.
If you're still experiencing the error code, I recommend contacting our support agents. Our phone and chat representatives have specialized tools to help pull up your account and provide the ultimate resolution. You can follow the steps provided by @Anonymous or follow these steps:
Once everything is in the right place and confirmed, you will need to record employee information and set payroll preferences. I recommend adding this comprehensive guide to help keep everything in order: Get started with Payroll.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention and for allowing us to resolve your direct deposit activation. If you have other setup concerns in payroll, we'll be there to help accordingly. We'll make sure to assist you always, lathamgravel.
