yes.

you have to talk to so many people and then get put on hold and at the end of trying to get help you do not.

Does anyone else think QuickBooks is terrible?

Yes,

I am on the "help" line right now

I am sure it is operator error, or at least this is what they will say, but my customer was charged for an invoice twice.  All I wanted to do was show that the invoice was paid.  But QB is always trying to make more money, so the button for instant payment must have been close to the old button for "paid" invoice.  The cost for this payment you ask?  10%!!!!!!  What in the entire world are they smoking at QB.  10%????

Now I am on with this wonderful woman from another country.  (I have 0 problem with other workers throughout the world being employed).  Unfortunately though, she can't get off script because of the language barrier.  Then when I ask for the call to be escolated because we are not understanding each other, she goes back on script.  "there is nothing the supv can do that I can't".

Quick Books cares more about their own money, processes, and procedures than mine.  They upsell at every corner, and when I look to get value from what I already paid for, I get NO HELP at all.

[26 minutes and counting on the "help" desk call]

And they apologize over and over and over.  Why not change the process?  Then you wont have to apologize.

"My accountant really wants me to use..."

Exactly.  I was using YNAB before, but accountants look at you like you have 2 heads if you dont yse qb, and they want to charge extra.  This is everything that is wrong with a monopoly.  Their service is terrible.  The tool is lackluster.  The maintenance is non existance.  Oh but the fees from small business to them keeps on coming.  That part of their operation spins like a top.  They clearly care more about my money than theirs.

Quickbooks is absolutely the worst. I signed up because my accountant encouraged me too. I migrated from Gusto which I’ve been paying my employeees and customers fine for a year. Cannot even get my bank accounts synched with QB and once I did they requested I send them all kinds of crazy paperwork. After that they had these rediculous limits so I couldn’t even pay myself or my employees. Went back to Gusto and processed 200k in Payroll the day after I set it up. Can’t see wht anybody would use QB with all of the better options available

All of the QB suffering would be worth it if I knew there was a special level of Hell devoted to this company.  I want to know that there is some eternal retribution for what suffering they've inflicted on us.  I can't begin to describe how much I hate this company and how absurd it is that we're stuck with them because of some sort of conspiracy between them and accountants.  I'd rather shut down my business than to deal with Inuit any longer.

Lol I've felt this way about Quickbooks since right about 2007-2009 when I started getting ads for software that I had already paid for. I remember making a PDF of an invoice that I was going to email a customer like I usually did (and still do) and saw that Quickbooks had added a line to the bottom of the invoice that said something like "Pay for this invoice online at Intuit....." without me adding it there. If I had not caught it, it would have been a nightmare because then the customer might have gone and paid it to Intuit, then forced me to pay for an extra subscription to Intuit plus whatever percentage cut they would have gotten from the invoice just to get my own money back. It seemed like they were trying to steal money.

I decided to leave a bad review for it on Amazon back then and saw many other 1 or 2 star reviews also complaining about the ads, bloatware, and the sneaky things Intuit was doing. Within days, all off a sudden a bunch of 5 star reviews started showing up and they looked very suspiciously similar with the same type of grammar from people who had no reviews before along with people who had received the product for free through Amazon's Vine program. That along with all the Intuit employees who responded to the negative reviews aggressively essentially tell them they were wrong, completely shouted down the negative reviews.

After that, I talked to my CPA about Quickbooks alternatives and she pretty much told me that there WAS NO OTHER software...they were it. At the time, Microsoft Accounting had come out too but had very little adoption among CPAs so without that, it went away and Quickbooks was a monopoly which much like the Mafia knew businesses were a captive audience and they started raising fees for payroll and other things that used to included or had very small fees.

CPAs, many of whom are also complaining on these forums helped create this monster. I hope a few of them have the decency now to take legal action against it. At a very minimum, perhaps some people who are known in the small business world can talk to their US Congress person and Senators. They have a near monopoly here.

The service has gone downhill so much that I felt the need to comment as well. The page loading speed is not industry standard and very inefficient.  The account linking feature is not working to automatically sync transactions.  When I called QB to ask for help and report the error, the customer service representative agreed on all accounts and said she is hearing the same thing from a LOT of customers.  Seems like QB/Intuit is on a suicide mission.  Maybe management knows they aren't keeping up their platform and we're all just chumps if we just hang on to pay them for services not rendered.

Quickbooks is a perfect example of late stage capitalism.  The product doesn't exist to serve a need, but to suck as much money out of the users as possible.  It is nothing but a glorified excel spreadsheet and worked really   well up until 2004 when they felt the need to f**k up the file system to store every entry and change and deleted transaction.  In addition there are constant adds to try to sell the users everything from forms to additional services to tax preparation.

And don't even get me going on the on-line version, what a joke.  The layout and names of functions is just different enough to screw-up the workflow of anyone accustomed to using the desktop version.

Wow. With all of this feedback you'd think someone would notice. I have been using this steaming piece of QBO for a year, hated it within 6 months of use, and am now looking for alternatives. Help and support is a joke. I cannot customize anything. I create and recreate custom texts, templates, etc... only to have them magically revert to original/default. Invoices are sent additionally for the number of people listed as a recipient (6 people listed = 6 separate invoices sent to each person). Now I'm trying to straighten out my reporting for tax purposes. I should have just stuck to Excel and paid a little more with my accountant.

This is absolute garbage. Asking for support makes things worse. It's actually easier to just apologize to the customers and jump through the hoops. It appears you have to pay a 3rd party for any meaningful support. Is this intended?!

Mileage tracking app is subpar when it works (addresses incorrect, starting and ending locations the same but showing 7 miles travelled, etc), it stopped checking mileage leaving a 4 month gap last year and their response was none, looked up a solution... manual entry... seriously?

you would think for a multi-million dollar company they would have better than canned useless suggestions.

Get their money and press on!

I agree. I can never get help when I need it and I am always having to reenter my data. I do volunteer work & I keep track of the accounting during off hours so I can never get help from QB because they don't have support during off hours. I have lost my data 2 times in the last 6 months. I have to reenter 3 months of data 2 times. I tried to restore the information but I couldn't find my backup copy on my computer.

Are you using QB Desktop? Try to run the manual backup and restore it. There are other ways to recover your data when your backup file is damaged or lost.

I cannot agree more.  I switched from desktop to quickbooks online and it had been nothing but problems!!!!!

The customer service is slow and they could care less that my business is on hold until they fix the problem.

I would NEVER recommend anyone to use this software.  They did also not inform me that NONE of my payroll would transfer over. I called to get help with undoing a simple bank reconciliation and my books turned into a complete mess, that the online support created.

As I type this I am still waiting for a manager to call me.  I have no way to contact them. I have to wait for them to contact me.  So I am now on 6 days of waiting for this problem to be resolved.

Does anyone else think QuickBooks is terrible?

Let it be known: Quickbooks has a horrible practice of holding deposits, working the "float." It's a borderline criminal practice, frankly.  I have read my one-sided licensing agreement and there are no specifics as to how long their "review" of a deposit might take. And the lovely people at customer support know nothing, only adding to the frustration.

Case in point: I was sent $60k (long overdue) from a client on Monday 3/20/23.  The client told me they paid the invoice on Monday. On Tuesday I received an automated email from Quickbooks that said in big bold type: "PAYMENT HAS BEEN RECEIVED." Great!  I'm thinking I've finally got my money and can pay my subcontractors and other expenses.   But wait.  On Wednesday I looked in my bank account and there was no $60k!  I didn't actually get paid.  What? How could this be. The QB email said I was paid!

Turns out Quickbooks was paid.  Not me.  In their "bank-like" role, they intercepted the money but never deposited it to my account.  I understand the federal banking rules and that they might need a little time to "review" the deposit.  It's all automated and doesn't require a human review, but let's not go there for now.  They needed a day to "review" the deposit which is why (I assumed) I got the email on Tuesday, not Monday.

Well, today is Saturday, 3/25/23, six days since the customer made the payment.  Still no $60k.  Throughout the week my bookkeeper (who bills by the hour - thank you, QB) and I called our customer to see if they had the right bank account number, we called the bank multiple times thinking something was wrong on their end, and of course we called the QB support line multiple times.

QB support people are very nice and sympathetic.  But they have no answers.  One sent me a copy of the service agreement.  I read the whole thing since I had so much time waiting for a supervisor to come on the line but she couldn't explain anything either.  I asked her to show me where QB defines the terms of holding checks.  She admitted it wasn't there.  She also couldn't explain why I hadn't received any notice since the "payment has been received" notice.  Nothing.  No email saying your deposit was still in review.  No further communication from QB whatsoever.

There was no message in the customer resolution center.  One QB rep said I should be looking for the answers on the Intuit website.  Like I've got nothing better to do with my time.  Apparently in a long list of Q&As somwhere there is some weaselly answer about QB's right to review deposits.  Another rep said it could take 7-10 business days for me to get my money!  What?!  For an ACH deposit coming from a 12 year-old $100m global company?  That should be a day, tops.  Maybe two.  But six days and counting??  That's Quickbooks holding onto cash.  Greed.

Quickbooks needs to change its weaselly deposit policy, be very clear in the service agreements, stop sending stupid emails telling me I've been "paid" when I clearly haven't, keep their kind QB customer service staff informed instead of them all saying "we don't know anything, we don't know why," and PROACTIVELY keep the customer informed!

Is it possible to do more damage to a brand than holding onto someone's money, only so you can squeeze out a few extra days of "float?"  Get it together, QB.  And send me my money!

They're more concerned with adding new features that are of no use to the 99%, bloating the software with junk instead of fixing all the quirks in the program. Bank feeds is an abomination and the software crashes so much that every single person that uses QB has come to accept it as normal.

Absolutely, first they eliminate the email option on Invoices, etc. and they want you to go online for whatever crazy amount of $$$ their wanting then all I was trying to do is find the stupid "Gear Icon" and the robot on the chat said I had to buy a service plan of $569 or whatever it was just so they could tell me where it was. Owning a small business is difficult enough without QB sticking it to us as well! Time to look for a different accounting software, there's a number out there that friends are using, going to make the switch asap....this is rediculous!

I am an unpaid volunteer bookkeeper for a non-profit organization.  We used to be a 3 person shop, but have grown almost 20 employees.  When we were small, I kept the books on my Quicken system using the business module.  It wasn't really geared for a large business, but I made it work and our tax CPA welcomed the statements compared to our previous bookkeeper who used Excel and didn't know you could use functions to add up columns so they were always wrong.

But I digress.  I was asked to start using QuickBooks Online to keep the books.  I figured it can't be that different from Quicken, but alas it is the worst thing that has ever happened to me.  I used to enjoy doing the books, now I absolutely hate it.  It took me about 3 seconds to categorize a banking transaction.  Now it can sometimes take me 15-20 minutes when I attempt to fix the guess that QB thinks it should be.  But the worst thing of all:  I often have questions about a transaction that I need to ask the Executive Director.  In Quicken I could add a little red flag to the transaction which would remind me to ask her my question.  For the life of me, I can't find any kind of flagging mechanism in QBO.  WHY ON EARTH???  I cannot believe that no one else uses QuickBooks like me.  I guess they all can read the minds of the people running the business.  I am this close to chucking this awful mess and going back to using Quicken.

may i reply with something?   I am dumbfounded that I can not create an invoice off an estimate based on the qty of the item that is ready to be invoiced.

if someone ordered 1200 cases of widgets, but I only have 34 ready to invoice...... I can't create an invoice off of the qty....... I have to convert the 34 to a percent of the order and invoice that percent off the original 1200 widget order in this case I would invoice .02833% of the 1200 widgets...

which is bad enough

but when I want to ship a subsequential order..... the estimate does not indicate how may I have already shipped just that I invoiced .02833% of the 12000 widget order

am I wrong?

I'm here to help you send invoices over time as you work off an estimate in your QuickBooks Online.

First, you'll want to turn on your progress invoicing. Here's how:

  1. Go to Settings ⚙ and choose Account and Settings.
  2. Click the Sales tab.
  3. In the Progress Invoicing section, select Edit ✎.
  4. Turn on the Create multiple partial invoices from a single estimate switch.
  5. In the Update your invoice template?, choose Update.
  6. Click Save, then Done.

Next, create a progress invoice template. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings ⚙ and select Custom form styles.
  2. Choose New style and then Invoice to create a new invoice template. Or, to update one of your existing templates, find the template and select Edit.
  3. Give the template a memorable name, like "Progress invoice template."
  4. In the Design tab select Change up the template or Dive in with a template.
  5. Select Edit print settings, or When in doubt, print it out.
  6. Choose the Content tab.
  7. Select Edit ✎ on the table section of the form (the second section with Activity, Rate, and Amount).
  8. Select Edit ✎ on the footer section of the form (the third section with Total and Balance Due).
  9. Click Done.

Does anyone else think QuickBooks is terrible?

Since September....

  • September -- They have EXPIRED the stand alone desk top version that I was using (which was paid for!), and locked me out of my books. After DAYS on the phone with them (and locked out of my books), the only way to fix it, according to them, was to upgrade to 2023.  I had to do payroll, so I did. It caused Avalara Sales Tax to stop working, so I could not do invoicing. They never told the engineers at Avalara about the specs for the new version.  No problem, go back to 2022 -- right? NOPE -- they REFUSED to sell me 2022 -- I had to ARGUE WITH THEM FOR HOURS, and finally took to Twitter to get results.
  • October -- With the newer Desktop Model, they push down upgrades whenever they feel like it. They  broke TransactionPro, so that I could no longer do invoicing. Was forced to upgrade from 2022 to 2023 (Avalara was finally working).
  • February - We use send forms to send out invoices.  Somehow, Quickbooks attached the WRONG invoices to the WRONG email addresses, so we sent 71 invoices to the wrong customers. Support's answer -- check to see if the DB is corrupt!  UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD THE WRONG INVOICES BE ATTACHED TO EMAILS!!!
  • Feburary -- Did a Commision Payroll check incorrectly - my bad. Called the assisted payroll team.  THey told me to delete the check -- this caused all kinds of problems, since the money was all already taken from the bank. Called assisted payroll again -- was told that I should have never deleted the check -- you have to do a void for things to happen properly. THEY TOLD ME TO DELETE THE CHECK!!! Did the void, and it took a very large sum of money and sent t to the IRS -- for a second time, since the first check already did that.  Called again, and they walked me through correctding the check. I asked if it would again take money and send it to the IRS, and was assured that it would not -- IT DID -- third time!!! So six figures from a small business going to the IRS for no reason, and being told to wait for the 941 refund process.  PS -- they file 941s on PAPER -- NOT ELECTRONICALLY!
  • April -- After payroll ran and money was taken from the bank, they changed my checkbook register entry to negate some of the taxes, however, THE MONEY WAS ALREADY TAKEN FROM MY BANK ACCOUNT!  I have been trying for OVER A MONTH to get this corrected. The person that I have been working with has told me they would call, and never called, cancelled calls an hour after they were supposed to take place, or called late. I have spent hours on the phone to find out that they are not the right department and I had to speak with banking. My checkbook will not balance because they changed the register erroneously, and they don't believe that they money came out of my account.  I have sent them my bank statement and am begging to have this corrected. THERE ARE NO REPORTS TO RECONCILE FROM QB PAYROLL TO YOUR BANK!
  • May -- I got yet another "your license is expiring message".  I mean last time, this was the equivalent of Ransomware. They held my books hostage until I bought 2023!  I did not want that to happen again.  Found out that I have paid for 2 subscriptions -- one expiring in September and one next January, yet I still got this message! They "merged" my 2 licenses (not seamless), but there was NO offer of a refund for charging me twice.

I am only hanging on to this awful product because my accountant wants me to use it, but it is going to drive me into an insane asylum! I wonder if Intuit will stay in business when the IRS offers Tax Software free next year (no need for Turbo Tax)? Has anyone else broken free and found another product?

this last move to 1000.00 a year desktop software is beyond the pale. I still have 6 months left on my payroll subscription and there will be no refund, although they say the software will not be connected to services after the 31st, they have stopped providing enhanced payroll services, they still want me to send my payroll info on my employees to them.  Why would I go to the cloud, where it doesn't have much of the reporting that I use for my small professional services company.

I have used Quickbooks since the 1990s, and over the years have been constantly amazed about how much functionality they had in the product in the beginning, and how routinely and ruthlessly, they removed every other year or so and told their customers that it was to provide them more functionality.  This move to the cloud is the last straw, and even though I am close to retirement, I will be changing a 40 year old business to a different system.   There are so many ways that Intuit shows they are only out to squeeze every last dime out of their clients -- the intrusiveness of the software, with pop ups, reporting to the mothership.  They make changes and then 1 year later, they strip it and sell it as an enhancement. Then they force a software upgrade, with pop-ups right when you need to run something. There has never been an appreciation of their current customers and to put it succinctly - I'm fed up.  I will tell all new businesses to steer clear.  Please help spread the word, intuit's business model is criminal.
