I have used QB Desktop along with Payroll for almost 20 years. Migrating to Online version has been a nightmare to say the least. I did get one nice and helpful rep last night, for 3 1/2 hours! trying to figure out some of the issues I have had. This after another 3 hours spent last week right after the switch. One major issue I am having - cannot link some original estimate where I do progress invoicing. They migrated separately - so now I have payment for invoices that do not go towards any estimate. This affects my accounting in so many ways. I am also having to manually enter many things. I can go on and on
The conversion process will not bring any non-posting transactions (eg estimates, purchase orders). You will need to add these transaction types manually later or consider purchasing a third-party service to convert data with these transaction types.
Intuit is not to be trusted. So we pay for an annual payroll subscription, right? Like $500. Six months later, they are discontinuing it for us because we won't submit to their new "annual subscription" thievery for QB Desktop. Telephone wait time is over 2 hours, specifically due to this discontinuation of support for Desktop 2020 (that's what their recording says). Chat -- extreme wait time. I don't see an email contact. Plus, they charged us yesterday for payroll subs for next month -- when we won't even be able to use it due to their decision to discontinue payroll service for QB2020 on 5/31. Untrustworthy, corrupt, unethical .... sounds like someone there should run for Congress. Does George Santos work at Intuit? Probably ...
Yeah, good luck to anyone with that "chat & get a callback". Lol, what a joke this company is.
So I escalated my complaints to the CEO. I was sent a "form" email that the Product Manager for Quickbooks would be contacting me. He did not. The office of the president arranged a call with me. This was a couple of days in advance, and at HER availability. Waited 30 minutes today, and SURPRISE -- she was a no-show for the appointment. Ninety minutes later, she said that something unexpected came up, yet she didn't even send me a note to tell me that in advance. She is trying to arrange another call tomorrow, but frankly, I give up. Not going to fall for this yet again. If a company is getting their "damage control' team to appease an extremely disgruntled customer, and they don't even have the decency to show up for the call, or reschedule it in advance, this clearly sends the message "WE DON'T CARE". Anyone switch to Sage yet?
ME!
The QBO Payroll system is getting worse day by day. The system is riddled with errors. They have no understanding of how things work in an accounting company.
1.) Suddenly, they have made it impossible for me to print a paycheck on a blank check. Now I have to order their preprinted checks for each of my clients which totals 53. All they seem to care about is selling new features or products to their customers.
2.) The support is the worst I have ever encountered. The chat team always provides generic responses. They are no longer willing to help.
3.) Even the back-end team takes weeks to solve a problem, and then they simply say, "Hey, we couldn't find a solution, this is what it is."
4.) At the beginning of 2023, I changed a paycheck date from 2023 to 2022. As a result, the QuickBooks team reported incorrect total subject wages for Q1-2023. Now I am spending a significant amount of time fixing their mistake because when I ask them to correct it, they say, "Your Q4-2022 taxes are underpaid. Pay it through the agency website." They don't even bother reading the notices, emails, or letters you send.
5.) Sometimes they allow me to pay past due taxes through their system, and sometimes they don't. There is no consistency.
6.) Last month, I set up a company with all the necessary information, including the state taxpayer account ID. Today, I accidentally noticed a message on my homepage stating, "We couldn't report the new hire to the state." I contacted support to ask why they didn't report it on time. Their response was, "You entered the state taxpayer ID into the account A WEEK AGO."
7.) They have made it impossible for my boss to export our own payroll. Now he has to manually enter all the information into QB Desktop. Attention, QB Online and QB Desktop belong to the same company, while he is unable to integrate them.
8.) We pay QB Online Payroll as if we were hiring a part-time accountant. I hope to find a new solution soon.
9.) How could I forget... The system started failing to display payroll tax payment dues before the due date. It only shows them after the due date has passed, which resulted in four of my clients receiving interest and penalty notices. I submitted four separate cases, but I have yet to receive a response from their "tax resolution department".
I cannot get help from QB Payroll! The help line has over an hour hold time to speak with someone and the Chat has the same. Amazing I pay what I do to run payroll for 2 people, and the system is always whacked! Never works and you cannot get a human to help! Amazingly poor service
The funny part is that Intuit's stock has been shooting through the roof. I guess their investors are expecting high returns from the forced subscription model and are already counting the money. In my case they not only lost the $760 (probably higher this year), they lost the $180 I would have paid for the next 3 years like I have been doing. Soooo in their greed to get that $549 a year extra to get from me, they lost $1000 easy money.
I hope others follow. I'm just doing the payroll calculations by hand now. It's easy. Just look in the old checks to get the federal level and 6.2% for SS and 1.45% for medicare. Easy peazy.
I'm with you!!!! I used Sage 50 for over 35 years in another company. I now have my own company and thought it would be easier to use quickbooks and have everything in the cloud and accessible where ever I was. I thought it would be easy to use, this is completely foreign and I've been doing bookkeeping for over 35 years. AND... the support documents don't correspond to the errors... It's SO BAD!!!! I'm ready to stop the subscription and convert everything to Sage 50.
My Personal Favourite QB Online Features: (Sarcasm)
1) The Old version of report downloads feature merged cells
2) The new (improved) versions don't recognise numbers as numbers
3) Balance Sheet transaction report downloads have the Debits and Credits the wrong way round
4) Journal Entries automatically put a balancing figure in the next line down - so you would never know if you had made any typos, because balancing the journal is apparently more important than typing in the correct numbers.
5) It is literally impossible to change the Main Admin if that person has left the company.
6) No "Average Days to Pay" report on AP
7) You are able to delete all data at any point in time, with no audit trail
9) As soon as the Americans log on at 2pm (GMT), everything grinds to a hault
10) When you go to look at an audit trail, you get stuck in a loop and cannot exit without returning to the main menu.
11) You cannot look at one Customer or Supplier, then go back to the Report and click on another, you have to exit to Main Menu, and re-run the same Report again.
12) It often does not tell you on the screen which of your multiple entities you are currently working on.
13) There is no English Language version, only "American" English.
14) The little magic wands on all the "new features" make it feel like an Android game.
15) Transaction Reports, if involving more than one GL, simply state "Split", because AI is apparently too lazy to be more specific. And if you then click on the individual transaction to see what the "Split" is, you THEN get stuck in the loop and have to exit to main menu. However, if you then download this report, you are then unable to filter the data.
16) Allocating cash to invoices becomes locked once you have closed the books for the Month, so if ANY payments have been misallocated, you cannot correct this without an Administrator reopening the books.
17) If you change either of the From or To dates when loading a report, Quickbooks automatically tries to update the report to match whichever date you have changed; frequently crashing, because, let's say you want to view a report relating to a particular month in the year 2020, so you change the From date to, e.g. 01/01/2020, Quickbooks automatically tries to load the report from 01/01/2020 until current-day. So it crashes. Often.
This was just off the top of my head, but if I actually sat and thought about it, there would be lots more.
Sir it appears you may need to start using another accounting software, please can you confirm the size of your business?
There were changes made to the payroll and sales tax portion of Quickbooks online. After the change, I was missing 3 months of Sales Tax payment data and my employee tax forms from previous months were gone. Only the Quarterly filing is available, not monthly.
Hello, @bshus. Thank you for reaching out to us.
I understand your concern regarding the missing data in QuickBooks after the recent update. Don't worry, as we are here to help you recover your lost data.
Please know that any changes in the system won't directly affect your data in QuickBooks. It's possible that someone who has access to your company file accidentally deleted your sales tax payments and the employee tax forms.
To help you determine the cause of the missing data, let's take a look at your audit log. This is where QuickBooks Online keeps track of all activities in the program, including who made changes to your books and what they did. By doing this, we can take appropriate action to prevent it from happening again in the future.
Here's how:
Please know that this will show you 150 records at a time. To view the audit history for a specific transaction or event, simply select View in the History column.
If no changes were made, then this might be related to cache-issue. At times, too much cache accumulated in a browser can cause unexpected behavior with the product. Let's open your QuickBooks account in a private window to isolate and fix the problem.
Here are the shortcut keys:
If it works, let's clear your browser's cache to delete temporarily stored files and free some space on your browser. You can also use other supported, up-to-date browsers to be thorough.
If someone accidentally deleted your files, you can archive your missing tax forms and record sales tax payment again.
I'm also adding our Community Help Articles hub in case you need some related articles in managing your account.
The Community is made up of friendly and knowledgeable individuals who are always happy to assist. Whether you have a specific question or you're looking for some general advice, feel free to ask away. Thanks for visiting us here!
I went through the audit log and could not find any entries in regards to payroll taxes and sales tax. When an entry is made in the background by Quickbooks, we can only view it. We can not edit it or delete it. With the last update there were also changed made to our invoice Master with new fields that we do not use. It would be big help if we could be notified when a change is going to take affect, and what modules it will be affecting, rather that find out when sitting down with an auditor. Also, last month I had data missing and after 3 hours on a support call, they told me to log out and log back in to Chro.e in the Incognito mode. I did this and the data was there. The following week we logged in to Chrome in the regular way and the data was there
This proves that what your programmers are doing does affect the data.
Hello there, @bshus.Please know that we value your business and are committed to providing the best possible service. I'm here to share information to address some of the issues you have experienced with QuickBooks.
Yes, you're correct that you can only view the transactions made in the background since modifying any entries created after the cut-off time isn't possible.
I also understand how important for our customers to get updated if there are new changes in the future. In the meantime, you can send feedback to our Product Developers about this matter.
Here's how you can submit your suggestions:
Additionally, you can also browse our QuickBooks Help page for helpful video tutorials and handy articles that you can use as guides in performing QuickBooks tasks.
Furthermore, if details are missing or the page simply does not load properly or becomes stuck, this could be due to outdated or corrupted internet files. This can be resolved by clearing the cached files in your browser.
It's always my pleasure to help if you have additional concerns or any other questions.
Yes!!! I do & have been with them for 20 years! The last few years they have gotten more expensive & seems like they are trying to get rid of the small businesses that got them where they are today! I couldn't believe when my Payroll just updated it was $710.00!!!!!!!!!!!! I have 13 employees & do everything myself, I do direct deposit through our bank (for free), I go to the federal & state site & pay all employee taxes, insurance & 401K (for free) myself! Last time I tried to get customer support, I could not understand them & she really messed up everything, it has taken me the last year since we renewed to get things straight again & they want to charge for that too!!!! I am seriously thinking about looking for another accounting & payroll software, does anybody have any suggestions?
Is Sage a good for accounting & payroll?
Consider upgrading your version to QBD Enterprise Gold and purchasing a new license through a partner to get up to 20% discount on new licenses and later renewals. Your fees should be lower than using QBD Pro Plus or Premier Plus + QBD Payroll.
No thanks!!!! That's the problem... We don't want Enterprise, we don't need all that!!!! All I need is your old accounting & payroll system back at a reasonable price.
All I need is your old accounting & payroll system back at a reasonable price.
What the reasonable price do you expect? You can convert data to a cloud based accounting app with the payroll as an add-on. To manage 13 employees, your payroll subscription cost will be $580 per year.
$580.00 is way to high!!!!!!!!!!! Did you not read my original post??? Money is all ya'll think about & don't care anymore what we say or try to do. your attitude is the problem also! All the payroll does for me is deduct the taxes & whatever other deductions they have. I DO EVERYTHING ELSE! This is also true with the accounting side!
You didn't mention how much your budget is. If you are working solo on a desktop (PC or Mac) to manage your book and only need basic features, you should explore a free program. You can use the program for as long as you like, use all the features and enter as much data as required. There are no time limits, no usage limits, no ads (at this time). Then to manage your payroll for up to 75 employees, you can use a stand-alone program and the cost starts from $189.
The check not printing was the straw that broke the camels back for me. One month of QBO I switched back to QBD. Worst mistake to try the Online version. Thinking it was going got be an easy switch back - oh no no. The agent spent 3 hours guiding me to only find out that she had me create a copy that only had what I entered in the Online version. My original info in QBD was not there. Oh lord. So I got transferred to someone who spent 5 hours!!!!! on the phone with me, and we got to the point where he said - it may be best for you to use your original file but manually enter ALL info for the month you used the Online
So now I’m back to old faithful Desktop - relieved! Some features in the Online were nice but overall - beyond difficult and frustrating. Since QB makes you upgrade every 3 years, with usually very little change, I wish this new one had enough changes to justify the new annual subscription. It has less changes than the three year upgrade.
I feel your pain!! I had to go through the same thing last year, although I was not aware they were putting me online at first & when I did it was a nightmare getting back to the desktop! I am glad you were able to speak with someone you understood & that could partially help!
