Quickbooks charged me $1400 for my enhanced payroll for accountants subscription. That is doubled what I paid last year. When I called I finally got some info from the 5th person I was transferred to. She said that it was discontinued but I guess I was grandfathered in. She told me that I should buy "payroll for accountants" which would be about $700 and then cancel the enhanced. She transferred me over to sales and they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about. Right now I only have 4 clients I am doing payroll for and one of them will be done in January. Does anyone know if I have any options besides having to buy a separate subscription for each client? BTW it is QB Desktop. Thanks,
Hello there, mreller.
I'm here to share information about the best payroll subscription you can use for your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
In QBDT, you can assign up to three Employer Identification Numbers (EINs) to each payroll service, including Standard, Basic, and Enhanced Payroll. However, since you have four clients, you have been offered the Enhanced for Accountant Payroll service, which allows you to add up to 50 EINs.
You can go to the QuickBooks Desktop Payroll section in this article for more details: Add a new company to your payroll subscription.
If you need more help choosing the right payroll for your QBDT, you can contact our Support Team by visiting our website at: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/payroll/desktop/. Then, scroll down to the Need help choosing the right Payroll? section to get their contact information and support hours.
You can also visit our support site for more tips and other resources you can use in the future: Self-help articles.
Please let me know if you have more questions about this or anything else. I'm always here to assist. Keep safe.
I am on hold with them as I type - I am just pissed off - no one can answer my questions - I have 9 clients and two new for next year. Not sure what the heck is going on - 40 minutes on hold.
Does not seem that you ansered the question...
Are you talking about the pricing?
I had the same situation. I had an enhanced payroll for accountants and found out yesterday, February 2, 2024, that my credit card was charged $1400. I thought I was charged twice but when I called and spoke to the accountant's payroll department, I was told that there was a price increase in late 2023 and I didn't receive any notice. I was very disappointed and looking for a better alternative. I was told the enhanced desktop payroll for accountants is discontinued which I was aware of but told I was grandfathered. It's insane that we have to pay from $700 to $1400.
Yes, QB sucks. However, out of the blue shortly after my post I received a message that the $1400 was in error and I received a credit back of half of it. I couldn't believe it! I am not picking up anymore payroll clients that don't have their own subscription from here on out.
Hi, what did you do to receive credit from Intuit? I was charged double for enhanced payroll for accountants subscription compare to the last year. This is outrage!
We're glad you've joined this thread, Darek.
I see the importance of receiving credit after being charge twice in the same period. I'll route you to the best help who handles charges and refunds.
To know the best action you can take about the double charges and receive credits, I recommend contacting QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Payroll support. The enhanced payroll supports are available Monday-Friday 6 AM to 6 PM PT.
Here's how:

Good afternoon.
I have used Enhanced Accountant payroll for a number of years. It has been a great fit for my clients and myself as an accountant.
Last year Intuit doubled the annual cost from $ 700 to $ 1,400 as a grandfathered product. I just completed a call with Intuit that was very useful but at the end queried about whether the pricing would change on my next renewal. The price is going to DOUBLE AGAIN to $ 2,800 as an annual cost and the direct deposit will increase from $ 4 to $ 5 per check. The price increase is effective as of 10/1/2024 upon renewal.
This is why people hate quickbooks. I think it's enhanced when there are more than 3 payrolls on the subscription. I think I can narrow mine down to 3 now. Somehow last year they did give me a $700 refund on the $1400 charge.
