With the changes Intuit has made to Quickbooks and Quickbooks payroll, I am wondering if you can still purchase the annual payroll subscription for Desktop. I am a payroll professional who has been recently hired for a company to process their payroll. They would like to bring their payroll in house and are using Desktop Pro Plus 2022
Yes, I think the subscriptions are mostly annual. The recent changes were mostly price increases, if I understand them correctly.
Yes, KnKbutterfly.
As mentioned by BRC, you can still purchase the annual payroll subscription for QuickBooks Desktop. To know its pricing and features, you can browse this page: Payroll Services.
You'll also be charged $2 monthly for each employee when you process their paychecks.
Once you purchase the subscription, I'd suggest checking out this handy guide to set up your payroll information: Get started with QuickBooks Desktop Payroll.
I'm also adding these articles that'll help you pay the employees on time:

CharleneMae,
I did see this, but it had the +2.00 per employee disclosure next to the annual and monthly price, it gave me the impression it was not a desktop subscription but another type of online subscription. Why is there a (2.00 employee fee) when I am doing all the work and quickbooks is just making sure I have the upto date information
Shirley
Welcome back to the Community, @KnKbutterfly.
Make sure to update the service key when your purchase QuickBooks Desktop Enhanced Payroll. When you have updated the service key, use this to reactivate the payroll service that comes with the purchased QBDT.
For the detailed steps in activating your QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, you can refer to this article: Reactivate your QuickBooks Payroll subscription.
You usually receive your service key in the mail. If you don't have a service key, you can check this article on how to obtain it: Enter your payroll service or disk delivery key.
Feel free to drop your comment here if you need further assistance. I'll be around to help. Have a great weekend!
I'm wondering the same thing. I have Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus 2023 with Enhanced Payroll yearly subscription where I pay every year in June. I do direct deposit through our bank and I file all the W2's and 1099's myself. If we do not want Quickbooks direct deposit or Quickbooks to file our federal/state year end forms is there a payroll product that I can purchase that is just like the one I have without being forced to purchase a monthly fee/per employee fee product?
Hi there, @Swenson1. Let me give you an overview of our QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Payroll product so you can choose and purchase the service that fits your business needs.
I want you to know that we're currently offering two billing options for our enhanced payroll. These are the annual and monthly billing with additional rates per employee per month. You can check out this link for more details: Enhanced Payroll features.
I understand your interest in subscribing to a payroll plan that would utilize your business' tasks without being forced to purchase a monthly fee/per-employee. At this time, you may contact our Sales Department so they can give you in-depth options that would cater to your needs.
Here's how:
Alternatively, you can contact them directly from your QBDT account. Check this article as your guide: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support.
On the other hand, I'm adding these materials for more tips while managing your payroll entries with our system in the future:
If you have other QuickBooks or payroll concerns, please let me know by adding a comment below. I'm more than happy to provide additional assistance. Have a good one!
I have an enhanced payroll for desktop, and I do not pay for the per employee per month. When my payroll updates next month (September) is it automatically going to charge me the $500 per year and then the $5 per employee per month (per company). Or am I still grandfathered in and do not have to pay the per employee per month?
I have 3 companies that I utilize payroll under the same subscription, and I do not want a big $1,500 per year fee for all three companies under the one company.
We're grateful you're using QuickBooks as your payroll tool, @Nikki59.
I understand your desire to get answers to your questions about the Enhanced Payroll Subscription. Routing you to the department that can efficiently assist you is my pleasure.
Our Support Team can verify your charges per year and employee each month. They can review the amounts involved and clarify what you need to pay to continue the service after payroll updates next month.
Here's how:
Please check out this article for our support hours: Contact QuickBooks Desktop Support. It is to ensure we cater to your needs on time.
Run your payroll in case you need to create a direct deposit or paper paycheck and send them for processing. This way, you can assign a schedule to your employees so they can receive their income on time.
Don't hesitate to let me know how your interaction with the Support Team goes. Keep me posted if you have other concerns about the payroll subscription. I'll be here to help you.
Since I have Quickbooks desktop I have 3 different companies that access the same payroll subscription.
I only have 1 user for all my quickbooks desktop.
One company has 5 employees
One company has 3 employees
One company has approximately 14 employees.
Consider switching to QBD Enterprise Gold and purchasing a new license through a partner for perpetual discounts. Your total cost must be lower than QB Desktop Pro Plus + QB Desktop Payroll. Otherwise, use QB Desktop Pro Pus + a 3rd party payroll app.
