Welcome, and thank you for switching to our QuickBooks Online (QBO) platform, drpeters. I appreciate you asking for updates about the employers student loan contribution. I'm here to share some information about this feature.

We haven't heard from our engineers yet about this. While waiting, you may send your feedback by following these steps:

Here's how:

  1. Click on the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Feedback.
  3. Enter your request, then hit Next.

The more requests gathered, the more likely this idea be prioritized and implemented.

In the meantime, you can follow the workaround provided by MaryLandT to track the contribution manually.

While you're new to QBO, you may also run through the resources from this link for more hints while working with your entries in the future: Help articles for QuickBooks Online.

Please let me know if you have other QuickBooks questions in mind. I'm more than happy to help you again. Have a good one!

Entering Employer Student Loan CONTRIBUTION

As of today, this feature is still unavailable in QBO Payroll.  Although workarounds have been suggested, this goes far beyond just tracking these benefits.  Because many states to not conform, the student loan payments have to be added to the taxable state wages on the employee's W-2. Why is this issue not being addressed? Have the engineers found a solution to this issue yet?  This provision has been extended through the end of 2025 and, from the looks of this thread, this has been an issue with the Intuit products since 2020. Please provide an update on the status of this contribution type being added to QBO payroll.

It sounds like you may understand how important this is but Intuit is once again ignoring its customers' needs on something that has been in effect since mid-2020 and will continue to stick around for at least 2 more years (if it's not further extended because student loans are a hot topic right now).  It's one more reason I have started steering people away from Intuit products and have been looking at options to move our business to a new suite of products.

Excellent solution.  However its only an accounting resolution.  The payment is not included in the employees pay.  How do we include as an additive to their paycheck?
