Export Payroll Item List to IIF

We are attempting to setup our TimeClock Plus Software (TCP) for payroll.  In order to export the payroll out of TCP, we first need to create an IIF file to validate the Payroll Item List and Employees.  The instructions provided by TCP tell us to go into Quickbooks, Select File | Utilities | Export | Lists to IIF Files and place checkboxes on all lists.  Apparently the Payroll Item List should be one of those lists that we are to export, however that list is not available to choose to export.  We are using Quickbooks Enterprise 23.  Is this something that Quickbooks has changed?

Export Payroll Item List to IIF

Good morning, @Paul-2719

Thanks for taking the time to reach out.

The steps that you've shown to obtain the .IIF file are correct. QuickBooks Desktop has not removed this feature. You can check out Export your payroll data in QuickBooks Desktop for additional ways to move your data.

Since you're not seeing this option available, I recommend contacting our Technical Support Team. This way, one of our agents can review your account in a secure environment and investigate this matter further. You can use the link I've included below to connect with an agent directly.

Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Take care!

Export Payroll Item List to IIF

I can share additional information about exporting the Payroll Item list to IIF, @Paul-2719.

Thank you for providing us with a screenshot of the concern that you're having. It helps.

In QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise 2023, you can't export the Payroll Item list into an IIF file. You can go to the Lists menu to check your Payroll Item List and print it. To know more about IIF import and export limitations as well as exporting, importing, and editing the file, check out this article: Export, import, and edit IIF files

In the meantime, I suggest reaching back out to TimeClock Plus Software Customer Support to verify what to do next.

Here's more information on running reports that can show all your payroll and employee reports in QuickBooks Desktop: Customize payroll and employee reports

RE: Apparently the Payroll Item List should be one of those lists that we are to export, however that list is not available to choose to export.

You're correct in that it's not an option. Exporting the payroll items list isn't one of the lists available on the export dialog and never has been - at least not for the decades I've been using QuickBooks.

So, calling Intuit support won't have any impact. I'd suggest calling the time-clock provider and asking them how it is they integrate with the payroll items list.

Export Payroll Item List to IIF

I have the exact same problem 2 years later from this post.  The Payroll item list is not listed as something that can be exported.  Did anyone come up with a way to do this?

Thanks for connecting with us in the Community, @Jules4641.

Let me share some information about your concern about exporting the Payroll Item List to IIF in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

As you mentioned in the thread earlier, upon checking the feature you are looking for is currently unavailable in the QBDT. Since this is the case, I recommend sending this insight to our Product Development Team. They will review it and may consider implementing depending on the no. of the user's request. Let me guide you on how to:

  1. Select the Help option.
  2. Choose the Send Feedback Online option.
  3. Click the Product Suggestion option.
  4. Type in your feedback suggestion.
  5. Then select the Send Feedback button.

However, as a workaround, you can export your payroll item list by using the printing option. Here's how:

  1. In the List menu, go to Payroll Item List.
  2. Under the Payroll Item drop-down, click Print List.
  3. Then click OK and Print.
