Garnishments for child support not deducted from

I have entered a child support garnishment for an employee. It is showing up in his profile but did not deduct the amount on his paycheck. I tried editing the paycheck, but the deduction section cannot be edited. How do I fix this?

Thanks for getting in touch with the Community, rtucker61.

Since you've already created your garnishment and can confirm it's showing up on the employee's profile, I'd recommend editing it and confirming it's set up properly.

While editing it, you'll want to confirm the following is entered correctly:

  • Child/Spousal Support - Amount Requested - The amount that will be deducted per paycheck. If allowed by the order, include any administrative fees you add. Note that this amount may decrease once disposable earnings are calculated.
  • Child/Spousal Support - Maximum % of disposable income - Look for a sentence saying "The total withheld amount, including your fee, cannot exceed __ % of the employee's/obligor's aggregate disposable weekly earnings...".
  • Federal Tax Levy - Amount Exempt - The amount that appears in your table included in the order.
  • Other Garnishment - Total Amount Owed - The total amount owed from the order. Their garnishment will automatically stop when your employee's total amount garnished reaches this amount.
  • Other Garnishment - Amount per period - Select whether the amount to be garnished is a percentage of gross pay, or a fixed dollar amount. Enter it exactly as shown on the order.
  • Other Garnishment - Alternate Garnishment Cap - Look for a withholding limit or cap on the order. This cap must include any administrative fees you choose to add. The total amount withheld for the garnishment can't exceed this cap.

When you're finished checking everything, select Save. If your employee has multiple garnishments, use your Garnishment weighting ▼ drop-down list to specify an order in which the garnishments are collected.

Once everything's been set up properly, it will be garnished successfully from their paycheck during payroll runs. Afterwards, you'll be ready to pay their garnishment to the appropriate agency.

I've also included a detailed resource about working with garnishments which may come in handy moving forward: Set up & collect garnishments

Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have an awesome Wednesday!

Thank you for following up, and I appreciate your efforts to resolve the problem, rtucker. I'm here to provide additional troubleshooting steps to ensure the correct amount is deducted from their paycheck.

There are times when the browser is full of frequently accessed page resources, which causes some errors or unusual responses.

Let's start accessing your account using a different or private browser. You can use either of these shortcut keys:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If the method above works for you, you can switch back to your usual browser and clear your browsing history. Alternatively, you can use a different supported browser, as the current version of QuickBooks might be experiencing a temporary issue.

If the issue persists, I recommend contacting our support team for a thorough investigation.

Here's how to reach them:

  1. Click the Help menu in the upper-right-hand corner.
  2. Type in Talk to a human, then press Enter.
  3. Select Contact Support Team.
  4. Type again Talk to a human and click Contact Support Team.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us.
