How do I reactivate employee on QB online?

I can help you with reactivating your employee, @colleenwich.

You can change the status of your employee from their profile. I'd be happy to guide you through the steps.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Payroll menu and select Employees.
  2. In the All Employees dropdown, select Inactive Employees.
  3. Select the employee from the list.
  4. From the Employment section, click the pencil icon to edit.
  5. In the Status dropdown, select Active to activate the employee.
  6. Click Done to confirm the changes.

Refer to the following article for more information about changing the status of your employees in QuickBooks Online: Terminate or change your employee's status on payroll.

If you'd like your employees to see their paystubs and W-2s online, refer to this article on how to invite them to QuickBooks Workforce: Invite your employees to QuickBooks Workforce to see pay stubs, W-2s and more

I'm just a reply away if you need any further assistance managing your employees or anything else. Keep safe and have a great rest of the day!

Let's sort this out so you can reactivate the employee, colleenwich.

The Pencil or Edit icon will only show up if you go to the employee's profile.

Make sure to click the name of the employee so you will be routed to the section where you can see it. Then, proceed to the Employee details tab to see the Pencil icon beside Employment

If you can't still see it, a possible browser issue might have hidden the Pencil icon. I'll share the steps on that can resolve some of the most common browser issues in QBO.

Use a different browser or switching to an incognito/private browsing session? Use these keyboard shortcuts to switch to incognito mode:

  • Ctrl + Shift + N for Google Chrome
  • Ctrl + Shift + P for Firefox
  • Control + Option +P if you're using Safari
  • Ctrl + Shift + P for Microsoft Edge

After that, check if can see the Pencil icon as shown in the screenshots above. If you're able to do it, delete your browsing history by following the steps in this article: Clear Cache and Cookies to Fix Issues When Using QuickBooks Online.

I have the same issue I made a terminated employee active and the employee still isnt showing up in the list so I can add there time. I dont know why quickbooks has just terminated for employees as not all employees are terminated they do quit.

I have tried everything and when I go to add time either in the single or the weekly this employee still isnt on there.

I see you've been through a lot already in trying to correct this unusual behavior in QuickBooks Online (QBO), deborahjtappan.

We appreciate you following my colleague's instructions. I reviewed our records, and there is no record of this instance. In addition to the suggested alternatives, we can add Intuit as a trusted site to prevent your browser from potentially blocking site content. Let me show you how:

  1. Click the Customize and control Google Chrome  icon and choose Settings.
  2. In the left pane, select Privacy and security, and then Site settings.
  3. Tap Cookies and site data.
  4. In the Allow section, hit Add.
  5. Enter *intuit.com, then press Add to save.

If this happens again, I recommend contacting our Customer Care team. They'll be able to access your account in a safe environment and look into what's causing this problem. Here's how it's done:

  1. Click the Help (?) icon.
  2. Tap Contact Us.
  3. Enter a description of your situation in the What can we help you with? field, then hit Let's talk.
  4. Select Start messaging or Get a call.

Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available. You can check out this article on how to change your employees' info in QuickBooks payroll products: Edit or change employee info in payroll.

I have the same issue of trying to reactive a "not on payroll" employee and I followed all the instructions to the tee and the employee shows up for a few seconds on the active list, and then the name goes away.  Did it over and over and still the same results.

How do I reactivate employee on QB online?

I’ve done this and keep getting an error message when I hit save that says:

Business Validation Error: The release date cannot come before the hire date.

Let me help you get past this issue, @BMu.

Please ensure the release or termination date is set after the hire date. For instance, if the hire date is 01/01/2023, the termination date needs to be 01/02/2023 or later.
