I can't get the alignment right on the bottom 1099 form?

Hello there, acct2!

I'll be glad to help you align your 1099 form. Let me show you how.

Let's go back to the 1099 form and edit it and click on the "No, it doesn't line up" button. Here's how:

    1. Click Finish preparing 1099s.
    2. Select I'll file myself.
    3. Select 1099 form and print a sample page, then select either:
        * No, it doesn't line up: If the info does not line up the form correctly.
        * Yes, looks good!: If the form aligns properly.
    4. Once the form is aligned, click Next
    5. Click Done to complete printing 1099.

Please view the screenshots below for your visual reference.

Please feel free to read this article for your reference: Set Up Printing Alignment for 1099 Tax Forms.

I can't get the alignment right on the bottom 1099 form?

I'm having the same issue...if the top form is aligned the bottom form is not. It seems like the template needs a little more space between the two forms to print them both correctly. I hope someone can help!

I can't get the alignment right on the bottom 1099 form?

Hi there, cmitchell,

Thank you for validating the results of those troubleshooting steps.

To help us further isolate the issue, let's check the PDF settings and make sure that general alignment settings apply the following changes:

  • Page Scaling: set to None.
  • Make sure that Auto-Rotate and Center is not checked.
  • Make sure that Choose Paper Source by PDF page size is checked.

Once verified, kindly check if it was already aligned.

However, if you’re still getting the same challenges after performing the trouble shooting steps provided above, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Customer Care support. They have the necessary tools like screen sharing to check and pull up your account.

Please feel free to reach back out if there's anything else you need help with concerning 1099. I'm always here to help.

I can't get the alignment right on the bottom 1099 form?

Are you still having this same issue or were you able to resolve? I'm still having the same issue. I spent an hour on QuickBooks support this morning, they were unable to resolve. I was added to a list of people with the same issue, all of us to be emailed when the issue is resolved, QuickBooks are apparently aware of the problem. I wish they could have told me that at the beginning of the call and saved me an hour of my time! I have multiple clients using QuickBooks online that I need to prepare 1099's for ...... it's January 26th! I would have expected the template to be working correctly ahead of tax season.

I can't get the alignment right on the bottom 1099 form?

Hello, @Bookkeeper25.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts here in the Community. Let me help share another option to check if it'll work.

In your Windows (Using Chrome):

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Select the three vertical dots in the upper-right side.
  3. Select Settings then Show advanced settings.
  4. Under Privacy, select Content settings.
  5. Deselect Open PDF files in the default PDF viewer application.
  6. Select Done.
  7. Print 1099.

If it still doesn't align, on the print window, expand the More Settings section to verify Fit to page is not selected.

We can give this a try while waiting for the update regarding this investigation. Rest assured that our Engineering Team is doing the best they can to get this resolved. Our Online Support will update you through your email as soon as this is available.

Please let us know if you have additional questions. Have a good one.

I can't get the alignment right on the bottom 1099 form?

Add me to the list. I tried doing this but it was not selected to begin with and I am still having the bottom page alignment completely off.  I have almost 200 1099's to mail in time!!!! This is not a billable hour I am wasting here! This is unacceptable and having to change settings on Chrome or .pdf or anywhere is unacceptable too! It worked fine on Desktop all the time. Please fix this asap!!! Debbie

Hey there, @debbiedenroof,

Thanks for joining the conversation. I want to make sure your 1099 report gets printed correctly.

Let's try printing a sample 1099 form and see if it works this time. Follow the steps below.

  1. Select the Expenses menu.
  2. Go to the Vendors tab.
  3. Click Prepare 1099s.
  4. Select Let's get started or Continue your 1099s.
  5. Follow the steps to prepare 1099s.
  6. Click Finish preparing 1099s.
  7. Select I'll file myself.
  8. Click the 1099 radio button and click Print sample on blank paper.
  9. Select the Print 📇 icon on the PDF viewer.
  10. Mark the Fit to page scale.
  11. Click Print.

Once done, check if the form is aligned this time. If not, I'd recommend getting in touch with our QuickBooks Online Care Support. There they can provide additional workarounds to get your work done in a secure environment. They can also do a screen sharing session to help isolate the issue.

Here's how to contact us:

  1. Go to this page: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact
  2. Choose QuickBooks Online.
  3. Choose Year-end tasks & activities then 1099.
  4. Scroll down and click on the Get Phone Number button.

That should do it, @debbiedenroof. Please notify me if you need further assistance. Have a good one!

I can't get the alignment right on the bottom 1099 form?

Thanks for posting possible solutions, hopefully they will be of use to someone. I too had over 200 forms to produce for multiple clients. I decided to revert to QuickBooks Desktop and set up all the clients there and am successfully producing numerous 1099 Forms. I had spent way too much time trying to get QBO to work as it is supposed to. Seems crazy when all of my clients are paying a subscription to QBO and all the information is in there. Also a complete waste of my time at my busiest time, but I didn't have confidence that Intuit would resolve the issue in time for me to produce all the needed 1099's by the deadline, so as not to incur penalties. (I have been on a "will e-mail list" for a different QBO error which is a known issue since April 2018!) Good luck everyone and if you have QuickBooks Desktop that would be my solution for peace of mind.

I can't get the alignment right on the bottom 1099 form?

Thank you Jen_D for your assistance and it helped but only to a little degree. When the sample printed it was just Ok at (68) and (-50) for settings and could have been mailed. Until I printed it for reals. Then the real print did not match the sample print!!!!!!!!!!!!! I checked it by making sure I printed it exactly the same and I did. Using the print icon and making sure it Fit to Page but the font is larger than the font used on the sample print, so it spaced everything out way longer and cannot be mailed-the tax id ends up in the recipients name, and so forth. Also, there is not enough space between the tax id and the recipient name to begin with on the QBO format compared to the QB compatible forms. So now I have to 'guess' as to what it will look like on the real print and just keep experimenting. This client only has 4 so I am holding off printing my 200 until its fixed. I really don't have time for a conversation as I  type quick so here's hoping I can jerry around with it just a few more times to work around the larger font issue and then hope that the whole thing works like desktop in a day or so. Thanks for getting me closer Jen. Debbie

I can't get the alignment right on the bottom 1099 form?

Hey there, debbiedenroof,

I appreciate you letting me know the result of the troubleshooting. I can share additional insight about printing your reports.

You might want to consider the following before printing your 1099 form:

  • According to the QBO System Requirements, you are required to use the Adobe Reader 11.0 or higher for printing
  • For printing forms, a laser or inkjet printer is recommended.

You can also try printing the form on a different browser, or open a compatible Adobe Reader and print the from from there. This step worked for other users, let me know if it helps.

If you continue getting this odd behavior, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Support Team. As much as I would love to make sure everything is resolved on your end, I'm unable to view you're account in this public space. Only our phone representatives can do a screen sharing session and can help you with your printing preference.

I'll be around if you need further assistance Debbie. Just mention me on this thread. All the best!

I can't get the alignment right on the bottom 1099 form?

Of course we checked the system requirements and already tried a different browser!  etc. etc. and I have already been in touch with QuickBooks support team and had a screen sharing session, for over an hour and they were not able to fix the problem! How much more time does Intuit think we have available at this busy time of year to attempt to fix something that should already work.

I can't get the alignment right on the bottom 1099 form?

I can only get the TOP portion of the 1099 type to line up correctly. It's as though QB doesn't realize it's a 2-up form. I've edited my vertical and horizontal placement, but it never changes the bottom form. There is mention that we are supposed to be using Adobe reader (or something like that), but QB doesn't open the form in Reader, it just opens it within the QB software. I wasted two days dealing with this and now my forms are late! I'll have to buy more forms and print one-offs of just the top portions of the form. This is not good.

I can't get the alignment right on the bottom 1099 form?

Hello there, @LynneB.

Thank you for posting in the Community. Allow me to help share some additional solutions to align the 1099 form.

To start, let's make sure you have an updated Adobe Reader version. This program is used for printing files from your computer, like 1099s in QuickBooks Online.

To update its release version, I've attached a link below that contains the detailed instructions. Once done, print your 1099 forms again.

If you get the same result, let's try to repair the installation of Adobe Reader to fix the printing alignment issues. Let me show you how:

  1. Close the Acrobat Reader and all open browsers on your computer.
  2. Click the Start button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen.
  3. Type Control Panel in the search box, and then press Enter on your keyboard.
  4. Select Programs and Features.
  5. Select Acrobat or Adobe Reader, and then select Uninstall/Change.
  6. Click Next in the Setup dialog box.
  7. Click Repair, Next, and then select Install.
  8. Click Finish when the repair is complete.
  9. Restart your computer.

After that, sign in to QBO and try to print the form.

However, if it doesn't work, I recommend reaching out to our Payroll Support. They have the tools to determine what's causing the issue and help you get back to business in no time.

These resources should help to get you back on track.

Stay in touch if you have any other questions about printing the 1099 form. I'll be happy to help you further. Wishing you and your business continued success.

I can't get the alignment right on the bottom 1099 form?

I was having the same issue with the 1099 details not aligning on the 1099-MISC form. I finally realized the problem is that the original form (you can buy at Staples or order from the IRS) is not the same size as the printed form 1099 (downloaded/printed from IRS.gov website).

When using the original IRS form, the alignment is correct. When using a 1099-misc form printed from the IRS website, the alignment is off.

Hope this helps.

I can't get the alignment right on the bottom 1099 form?

2022 tax season and the 1099 Alignment issue IS STILL AN ISSUE!

3+ years later and QB hasn't resolved- Totally unexcusable!!!

I can get the top to align, the middle will stay perfect but the bottom third 1099 is completely off and unusable!

QB- there is no acceptable answer other than to fix this!!!

If QB didn't hold a monopoly I don't believe any accountant would still be using it- always one problem after another they never resolve!

I can't get the alignment right on the bottom 1099 form?

I hear your sentiments, @2rsDigital1. I'm here to ensure you'll be able to correct the alignment of Form 1099 in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To do so, let's first make sure you have an updated Adobe Reader version. This is used when you print files from your computer such as 1099s.

Also, if you haven't yet you can perform the steps outlined by my colleague Mark_R above.

However, if you’re still unable to fix the alignment after performing the troubleshooting steps provided above, I highly recommend contacting our QuickBooks Customer Care support. They have the specific tools to investigate this further and determine the root cause of the issue. They can also create an investigation if necessary.

Once ready, here's the article that you can use as a guide in preparing your 1099: Create and file 1099s using QuickBooks Online.

I'm always here ready to lend a hand if you have any other concerns about 1099s in QBO. Have a good one and stay safe.
