I used QBO to file two 1099MISC forms with the IRS not realizing (fine print) that it wouldn't help me file them with my state. How do I file them with my state (MA) now?

I appreciate your patience, @jackson5.

I recommend checking with your state agency for filing requirements since QBO is unable to file 1099's for you.

You can use this article as your reference in E-file with 1099 E-File Service.

You may visit 1099 E-File Services FAQs to look for more information about filing 1099-MISC.

You can always leave a message through this post if you have more queries. I'll be happy to help. Have a good one!

OK It looks like Massachusetts requires the 1099MISC forms to be uploaded to their file portal in .txt format or for paper copies to be filed through the mail. Is there a way for me to download the .txt versions of the 1099s that I created? Or is it possible to print paper versions that would be accepted through the mail? Unless I missed something, all I was able to download after creating the 1099s were PDF versions of Copy 2 and Copy B, which aren't useful.

Thanks for getting back to us, @jackson5.

Currently, QuickBooks Online (QBO) can only produce and print 1099-MISC forms in PDF. The ability to convert it to TXT file is unavailable. In the meantime, you can try searching online for a third-party app that can do it as a workaround.

I can see how having this option would be helpful for you and your business. Rest assured that I'll pass along your suggestion to our Product Developers. They're always looking for ideas to consider on how to improve QBO.

I also recommend visiting our Blog site. This is where we share recent happenings and future developments, such as updates to newly added features.
