I just spent 2 hours on a chat. The rep put in writing that they suggested we just make up a random EIN and then told me to go ahead and e-file it. Not only does QB Online not work, representatives of the company are telling people to commit fraud! And in writing no less. This is absolutely ridiculous. I wasted over 2 hours on a chat and then another 1.5 on the phone before I found this thread.
So this is even worse now that we have to e-file this year... No correcting it by hand before mailing it out.
You can not rely on quickbooks and that is ridiculous for what they charge us. They will not correct the way information is entered on their forms and you are left to do it by hand on a written form.

What did you do, file with the wrong format or did you find a solution? I am in the same boat
We appreciate you joining us here in the thread, @jlsusan. We'll point you in the right direction to help you fix this so you can file with the correct details inside QuickBooks Online (QBO).
Before anything else, know that this isn't the type of experience we want you to have inside the system. We recommend contacting our Customer Care Team so they can help you correct the format and file them inside QuickBooks. We'll write down the steps to get you going:
See this page for more details: Contact Payroll Support.
Also, we're adding these articles to help you wrap up this year's payroll and fix an incorrect 1099 inside the program:
Please let us know in the comment section below if you need further assistance correcting the format or details inside your 1099s. You can also post here again if you have any additional QuickBooks-related concerns. Keep safe, and have a good one.

YES!!! I still need help! And no one on the chat seems to even understand what I am saying. They don't know basic tax law and that Sole Proprietorships use a SSN instead of an EIN. I don't want to spend hours on chat again just to be asked every 30 mins "What are we trying to do again?". One of your customer service reps even told me to make the owner of the company a contractor so that they would get a 1099 (They wanted me to fraudulently say they made $600+?) and then told me EIN/TIN doesn't even matter to the IRS and to just make up one! After 3 different days of being on the phone or chat all day I just don't have time to teach your employees the basics of their job and this software, just fix the problem!
They just don't get it! Today I was told to just file them incorrectly and wait for the correction notices from the IRS and then correct them later in February. My accountant suggested I go to Office Depot and get the forms that come with software and do them that way. I did some research and there are some 3rd party programs that import data from QBO. One of the apps within QB is 1099 Smartfile, I am probably going to use that , but it's going to cost about 180.00 to use. I will be able to file electronically, but will have to mail to my subs directly. Im sure Intuit will reimburse me (lol).
Good luck, I will let you know if this works

This has been going on now for at least 2 years that I know of and QuickBooks will not fix the problem. I was able to switch back to QuickBooks desktop last year and not a problem there only with the online version.
So 1099Smartfile didn't work , it would not update changes I made in QBO. I ended up using Tax1099 and it worked fine , paid approx 90.00 to file. Since it is to late for them to mail, I had to print and mail myself, but at least I know I filed correct forms.
Good luck everyone
I have found the 1099 line on the phone very inept and incompetent. I have had to try several times to get someone who even understands what to do but still rejected. This is a big problem
Hello there, pppr. I'm here to share some information with you about the 1099.
There are two possible explanations why you're 1099 gets rejected. It's either your company's legal name, Employer Identification Number (EIN) or Social Security number (SSN) that doesn't match IRS records or one or more of your contractors has an incorrect address.
To resolve this rejection and resubmit your 1099s, you must void your 1099s, update the incorrect info, and then e-file again. In the From the 1099 filings tab, select Void forms. This will void all forms that have been rejected.
I recommend contacting our Payroll Support Team. They have the tools that can check your account and help you why your 1099s are getting rejected.
