Is desktop payroll going away?

Well once again - frustration - I called two numbers directed on your reply - both times I answered the robotic questions that I wanted and needed information on DESKTOP!!  When transferred a recording comes up stating " QB Point of Sale is no longer supported - if you have questions about QB Desktop or Online call 1800- 4 Intuit   (Which IS the number I called by the way!)  and then I am disconnected    ???????????????????????????

When I call the regular line as you state and ask to speak to someone in the USA they say they are unable to tranfer to the USA and its the luck of the draw and keep calling back in hopes I rotate into a call center in the USA!!!!  Really !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Can someone help me other than continuing to offer online info and or more call centers???????????

Hi there, Pam417,

Allow me to join the thread to help you decide on upgrading your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) account.

Intuit releases a new version of QBDT annually, incorporating fresh updates and features. The one-time license for the QBDT version, valid for three years, is no longer available.

Currently, we are offering QBDT 2024 as a subscription-based service that requires annual renewal to sustain access to your software. Thus, it won't be discontinued by 2027 or 2028.

To know more information about QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation and how you can upgrade your desktop product, check out this article: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.

If you have follow-up questions about managing your QuickBooks account, let me know in the comments section. We're here to answer them for you, Pam417.

Agreed,  I have used both desktop and online - online version is no comparison to Desktop.

Reporting, user friendliness and being able to run more than one company.

I am trying to find out if QB is discontinuing (on 7-31-24)  new purchases of the  ASSISTED PAYROLL,  or only the ENCHANCED PAYROLL

@MBMD

As I know, they only offer Assisted Payroll for QB Desktop Enterprise Platinum. You can purchase it via a partner to get a perpetual discount on renewals if required. If you are using QB Desktop Pro Plus or Premier Plus, you can still purchase new Enhanced Payroll subscription until September 30.

I have assisted payroll with advantage plan and I am running Desktop Pro Plus.

I am helping another company who currently uses Premier Plus, but currently uses an outside payroll service and trying to decide if they need to purchase QB DESKTOP ASSISTED payroll now, or can wait until year end/new year.

And I actually can't even find a description of what assisted with advantage plan even has compared to other payroll options, but I used enhanced before and assisted is a better option for us/them.

I can help you with your concern regarding your question about discontinuing the QuickBooks Desktop Payroll subscription, @MBMD.

Following information, QuickBooks Payroll subscriptions will be discontinued, but not all of them. Any customer who purchased a QuickBooks Desktop Plus or Enhanced Payroll subscription before September 30, 2024, can continue to renew it after September 30, 2024. However, QuickBooks should stop selling multiple versions to new US customers.

The deadline for purchasing new subscriptions for the listed products has been extended from July 31, 2024, to September 30, 2024. This change will not affect current subscribers. Existing users of QuickBooks Desktop Plus and Desktop Payroll can continue to renew their subscriptions until September 30, 2024.

Intuit will stop selling new subscriptions for these products after September 30, 2024:

  • QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus
  • QuickBooks Desktop Premier Plus
  • QuickBooks Desktop Mac Plus
  • QuickBooks Desktop Enhanced Payroll

Moreover, you can check this article to learn how you can download the latest QuickBooks Desktop with your subscriptions: Manage your QuickBooks Desktop subscriptions and services.

If you have any further questions about subscriptions for your QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, please feel free to reply below.

The assisted payroll feature for QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2024 will not be discontinued. Active subscriptions will continue to support payroll services, including Assisted Payroll. This means that Assisted Payroll will remain available for users of QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2024.

Thank you for joining the thread, Mjbishop. I will make sure you receive all the necessary information regarding the new subscription update in QuickBooks Desktop. We are committed to providing our customers with the support they need to ensure a seamless experience with our product.

Customers using active licenses for QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2023 can continue using the software to record transactions and manage bookkeeping aspects. After that, these versions will be discontinued, and the available functions will change. Features like payroll or add-ons that rely on internet connectivity will cease to operate within QuickBooks Desktop.

In line with that, Intuit no longer offers a one-time license for the QBDT version that works or is valid for three years subscription-based with annual license renewal. That said, you will have view-only access for one year after your subscription expires. During this period, you're unable to edit your data with your inactive license, however, you can either renew your subscription or export your data.

If you wish to access your data after your subscription expires, you can renew it anytime. I'll share this article for more guidelines about what products Intuit no longer sells: You can't buy QuickBooks Desktop as a new US subscriber.

Additionally, you can always log in to CAMPS if you want to update your payment method, view your user ID access, and change billing information, see this for more details: Change, manage or update your Intuit account with CAMPs.

As you plan for the future, consider your options for maintaining security and efficiency in your business operations. Thank you for your attention, and dedication while using QuickBooks Desktop. Have a fantastic day ahead.

Yes you can update your own payroll. Not only that you can keep your older QuickBooks software forever as long as you don't run payroll through there. You could manually do it if you wanted to that'd be absolutely fine. You also cannot download from a bank so you'd have to manually enter which most people do anyway. I have many many many people on QuickBooks 2010 and other versions it works just fine

I brought this crazy note (see red text underlined) to the attention of the Ivory Tower at Intuit.

And, there response was "silence"

The issue for my clients isn't that in QB2024 desktop you can't get payroll.  It's that you pay the enormous price of Enterprise payroll for it.  Someone with three employees and a small business cannot afford that.   Desktop payroll is under the control of the owners and their accountants (me) who have been doing payroll for thirty years, on QB Desktop, and understand it thoroughly.  Online payroll makes errors and the "tech support" people have no idea how to correct them or even why they should be corrected.   I just tried to call sales to confirm the exorbitant price hadn't changed, and that machine that answers decided I couldn't talk to sales about prices but should be directed to someone who will teach me how to do payroll.    I know how to do payroll.  This is just so disrespectful of the people who made you, Quickbooks.

@278883871

If you don't have to use QB Desktop Enterprise, your client may consider switching to QB Desktop Pro Plus (or Premier Plus) + Payroll Mate. You will import payroll data as IIF from Payroll Mate to QB Desktop.

Thanks for following along with the thread, @278883871.

How are you doing today? I hope all is well.

In order to use Payroll in QuickBooks Desktop, you must purchase QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise. In Enterprise, payroll is built right in. You can see the rates using the link I'm including below.

If you have any additional questions about rates, etc. Please feel free to connect with our Sales Team: QuickBooks Desktop Sales Team

Don't hesitate to let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with. Have a good one!

Can I have multiple payroll client files using the same Enterprise subscription, as I do with my Accountant Edition?

You can add up to three separate EINs in a regular (non-accountant) Desktop Payroll subscription, 278883871. Allow me to add more details to this.

Please note that each EIN can only have one company file to maintain data integrity and prevent potential system conflicts. You can also read more details here: Add a new company to your payroll subscription.

Let me also share this article in case you need guidance when changing EINs or viewing subscription-related details in your account:
