I need to void an incorrectly written paycheck.

Greetings, @millerwav.

I can share some resources on how QuickBooks Desktop handles deleting or voiding a payroll check.

When you void a payroll transaction, it zeroes out the net amount and offset the taxes withheld on the check. The deductions on the voided check will no longer affect your tax liability as it removes the history of the original check.

Hello, @DD5959.

May I know what specific error you're getting when trying to void the paycheck? The steps provided above should help you further in voiding/deleting paychecks accordingly.

It's possible that this is a direct deposit check reason why you aren't able to void or delete it. If so, you need to reach out to our Support Team to check the status of the deposit and make the necessary changes you need.

If it's just a regular check, then I suggest repairing your QuickBooks Desktop to perform the steps seamlessly. To run the repair tool:

  1. Create a back up your company file.
  2. Restart your computer. This makes sure there are no programs that may affect the repair.
  3. Open the Windows Start menu, then select Control Panel. If you're using Windows 8 or 8.1, search "Control Panel" in the Windows Start menu.
  4. Select Programs and Features then Uninstall a Program. If you don't see Programs and Features, select Programs instead. Then select Program and Features.
  5. Choose  QuickBooks from the list of Programs, then Uninstall/Change.
  6. Tap Continue, or Next.
  7. Select Repair, then Next. The repair should start right away, but it may take a while to finish. You can leave it running, and come back once it's done.
  8. Once it's done, select Finish. You may have to restart your computer to complete the repair.
  9. Update your QuickBooks to the latest release. This makes sure you have the most recent fixes and security update.

After, try voiding the paychecks again.
