Payroll Deductions

I recently found out that one of my payroll list items can be deducted from gross, I edited the payroll item but it is still printing on the check stub as a net deduction. When I print my payroll summary it is showing it as a gross deduction. How do I correct the check stub?

Payroll Deductions

Hi there, @JHD.

I hope all is well. I'm here to give you some additional information on how to correct the check stub. Follow the steps below to bring QuickBooks current to reflect the correct data.

  1. Choose Window, then select Close All.
  2. Choose File, then select Utilities, and choose Verify Data.
  3. Click File, then select Utilities, and choose Rebuild Data.
  4. You will receive a warning message to backup your company file, press OK.
  5. Click OK when you get the message "Rebuild has completed."

Here's an article you can read for more detailed steps and information: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.

After verifying and rebuilding the data, you can try to print the pay-stub again to check if it shows correctly.

Let me know if you have any other questions by replying to this thread, have a great week.

Thanks for going through the steps above, @JHD.

Editing a payroll item is not a retroactive effect. You'll want to edit or recreate the paycheck for the changes to take effect. Let me show you how.

In your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT):

  1. Go to the Employees menu.
  2. Click the Employee Center.
  3. Go to the Transactions tab and select Paychecks.
  4. Locate and select your employee's paycheck.
  5. Click Paycheck Detail to edit or remove the payroll item.
  6. Once done, click OK, then choose Save & Close.
  7. Select Yes to confirm the changes.

Here's an article you read for more details (read the Edit the paycheck section): Modify or void pay and liability checks.

I also recommend getting in touch with your accountant for guidance in making these changes. This way, we ensure accuracy after making these changes.

You can also check this article that can help guide you in printing pay stubs: Print pay stubs in QuickBooks Desktop.
