Hi

Is it possible to change a payroll posting in QB Online.  The system does it automatically but I would like to change where somethings are posted to?

Thanks

I'm here to help you change the payroll posting, @LizaM1.

You can change the posting accounts used for payroll transactions directly from the Accounting Preferences option in Payroll Settings. I'll show you the steps on how to accomplish this.

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under YOUR COMPANY, select Payroll settings.
  3. Select Preferences.
  4. Click Accounting Preferences.
  5. Perform the needed changes according to your desired preference.
  6. Select OK.
  7. Click OK.

I'm adding this article to read and learn more about the accounting preference: Change your Accounting Preferences in QuickBooks Online Payroll

You may also read this reference with the topics to use while working with payroll settings: Change your Payroll Bank Account in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

Don't hesitate to post again if you have other questions or concerns with QuickBooks payroll settings. I'm always around, ready to help. Take care and stay safe!

Thanks so much, I don't have the preferences tab but can find some settings under

Business Settings/Chart of Accounts - would this be the right place to change it?

Also, can I change to something not listed in the drop down box?

Thanks

Thank you for getting back to us, @LizaM1.

I'd love to help you with your concern about changing the posting of payroll accounts in QuickBooks Online (QBO). But may I know what payroll subscription you currently have right now? Also, can you please share a screenshot on the Business Settings/Chart of Accounts page? Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

On the other hand, you can only change the account that is listed from the drop-down. However, you have the option to add a payroll account from the register so you can select it from your payroll account drop-down. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon, then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Select New.
  3. Choose Expenses or Other Current Liabilities from the Account Type drop-down.
  4. Depending on the account type you selected, choose a Detail type.
  5. Add or rename the account name in the Name field.

I'm adding this article for more guidance: Change your accounting preferences in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

Please know you can continue to reach me here with your additional questions. I'll be standing by for your response.
