Join nowThe non-profit I work for is are starting a Capital Campaign. Some of our staff will be donating to the Capital Campaign through payroll deductions, so I am setting up a payroll line item to do this. I have a Capital Campaign Pledge Receivable account that I was going to map to the payroll line item, but because it is an 'Accounts Receivable' type, I can't. The only solution I can think of is to create a separate account for Capital Campaign Employee Pledges as an 'Other Current Asset' and map the payroll line item to that, but I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue or knows of another way that might be more accurate.
Thanks!

It's good to see you here, @Bridgettdw,
The steps you're doing is correct. Since we cannot assign Accounts Receivable Account to a payroll item, you can use a different one on the list. Then, you can transfer the accumulated amount from Other Current Asset to A/R using a journal entry.
Just in case, I'll be adding an article about editing deduction items in QuickBooks Desktop for your reference. See this link: Edit a payroll item in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll
When making journal entries or if you need further tax advice, we always recommend reaching out to an accounting professional. Also, this thread will remain open for other users having the same scenario as yours.
If you need further help, please let me know in the comment below. I'll be more than happy to share some more insights about payroll or any tasks in QuickBooks. Have a nice day!
