We have three types of State tax information in QuickBooks Online.
I agree with @brconsultingid2 that you'll need to sign up to your state website to get the number. If you don't have a number, you can visit Alabama Payroll Tax Compliance for registration information or contact information to find out your account number from the state.
Once you already have the account number, you can update that by going to the Gear icon and select Payroll settings. Let me show you how:

I believe the problem is the AL Company Account Number is an Alph/Numeric format and Intuit is a 10 digit Numeric format. They are not compatible. I called Customer Service and Cheryl did enter my AL Account Number on a different line that I could not access...and entered with the "R" as the first character.
