I can definitely help you fix this, nanciekeys.

If you'll try to create a new profile for rehire employees, the system would prompt you that you've entered a duplicate SSN. That employee has been already saved in your account. Instead of creating a new one, we can simply reactivate the old profile to avoid this error.

Here's how:

  1. Select Workers from the sidebar menu.
  2. Click the Employees tab.
  3. Select the drop-down menu above the employees list, and click Inactive employees.
  4. Choose the employee you'd like to reactivate.
  5. Click the Pencil icon beside of Employment in their profile.
  6. Select the Status menu, and choose Active.
  7. You can also change the hire date for tracking purposes.
  8. Hit  Done.

You can visit this link that offers additional information on managing employment information: Add, edit, or inactivate an employee.

I've included an article that will help you in running your payroll in QBO.
