Run Payroll will not open when using Manual Payroll on Desktop

I set my company up for Manual Payroll on QB Desktop. I went through the Payroll Setup and was able to open Pay Employees one time.  I didn't finish the payroll becuase I was just playing around at the time, but now I cannot get Pay Employees to open at all.  I have run verify, rebuild, file doctor, updates, everything and I get nothing when I click on Pay Employees from the Home screen and from the top menu.

Run Payroll will not open when using Manual Payroll on Desktop

I'd like to share details and guide you about doing a manual payroll with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), TSfinanzas.

I appreciate all the actions you've done especially that you've updated your QuickBooks Desktop to its latest release. I see that you've already set up the manual payroll, after that you'll need to enable payroll inside your QuickBooks settings.

For more details, you can check this article: Set up manual payroll without a subscription in QuickBooks Desktop

Lastly, if the same thing happens, I recommend reaching out to our support team. They have the tools to check your account securely and perform a screen-sharing session to pinpoint its root cause.

Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Enter your concern, then select Continue.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us: Start a chat or Get a callback.

I've also included an article that'll help you set the available preferences in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll. This helps you in managing your payroll: Set Preferences for Payroll.

Please let me know if you have additional questions regarding with your manual payroll, and I'll be sure to get back to you. The Community is always here for you.

Run Payroll will not open when using Manual Payroll on Desktop

I have followed those steps at least 4-5 times and still nothing.  Like I said in my initial comments, the payroll is already set to manual, I've done this probably 3-4 times now (turned it off and back on again in the preferences).  I've run an update on my system.  I've done verify, rebuild, and the File Doctor.  I see the Pay Employees button but when I click on it, nothing happens!  I was able to get it open one time and one time only.  Since I closed it that one time, I have been unable to get it to open again.

Run Payroll will not open when using Manual Payroll on Desktop

Hi there, @TandemFDS.

Thanks for following along with the thread and sharing your concerns.

I recommend some basic troubleshooting steps to get this matter resolved. Such as ensuring your QuickBooks is on the latest release so you can have the latest fixes and improvements. I've included some steps to update below.

  1. Go to Help and click on Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Select Update Now, then tap on Get Updates.
  3. When the update finishes, close and reopen QuickBooks.
  4. When asked to install the update, hit Yes.
  5. When the installation finishes, follow the on-screen instructions.

Once the update completes, close your company file, then QuickBooks. Reopen and test your manual payroll again.

Just in case a step was missed, I wanted to be sure I covered all the steps you'll need to activate manual payroll:

  1. From the Edit dropdown menu, select Preferences.
  2. Click on Payroll & Employees, then tap on the Company Preferences tab.
  3. In the QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Features section, choose the Full Payroll and the Manual Payroll checkboxes.
  4. In the Get Payday peace of mind window, select Next and then Activate in the confirmation screen.
  5. Hit OK to apply the changes.
  6. Tap OK to exit out of the preferences window.

That should do the trick. For additional information about setting up manual payroll, check out Set up manual payroll in QuickBooks Desktop

Please let me know if this works for you. I'll be sure to hang around if you have any further questions or concerns. Have a good one!
