Updating WA state L&I

How do I update L&I rates in WA state on QBO?

- All of the tutorials on this hot mess of a site include pages and options that aren't available to me.
- I finally got ahold on someone on the chat feature and after 20 minutes it was revealed I was talking to the wrong type of person and needed to talk to someone else. The transfer to someone else didn't work. How did I end up with the wrong type of person anyway?

- Mostly the chat function says 'something went wrong try again later.'

- Why is anyone paying for this terrible program? Oh right, they have a monopoly and don't care about people, just profits.

Updating WA state L&I

This isn't an experienced I want you to feel when updating L&I rates in WA state. However, I still appreciate you for coming back here to the QuickBooks Community so I can help you with any concerns you may have with QuickBooks. I'll share steps to ensure you're able to update L&I rates in WA state in QuickBooks Online.

 

I suggest going to the Payroll menu and choose the Employees section. From there, you'll have the option to change the L&I rates in WA state or the Composite Rate that it shows the total rate of the Employer plus the Employee. Please follow the steps below.

 

  1. Go to the Payroll menu and select the Employees section.
  2. Choose the employee's name.
  3. Select the Edit icon next to Pay.
  4. Scroll down to the workers' comp section. Then, select +Enter workers' comp info.
  5. Choose Yes, I have the tax rate.
  6. Enter the rate in the Composite Rate which the total rate of employer + employee.
  7. Fill in the other necessary field.
  8. Hit Done.

Updating WA state L&I

I have several employees in each of several companies. You're saying I have to manually change each employee individually? That's a terrible solution.

 

Also, I just tried what you suggested and all I can do is assign a different worker's comp code. I can't change the rate of the code the employee already has. The steps you have given me are for the initial assigning of a rate. I need to UPDATE a rate.

 

And once the rate is assigned I can no longer see what the numbers are, so I can't double check that I got the right numbers.

 

And L&I gives rates out to 4 decimal places and QBO only does 2. This difference adds up over time. Why not do 4 decimals like the rates are given by the state?

 

And people wonder why I dislike QBO so much. Nothing about it is good.
