W-2 efiling directly from QuickBooks

I am trying to find information on E-Filing of W-2s. Can W-2s that are required to be E-filed be sent directly from my QuickBooks Accountant Desktop program to Social Security without using my BSO ID number with SSA? I am going to have a company with more than 10 W-2s and 1099s in total and must E-File both. I have not had anyone answer the question directly. It is confusing since it was changed for this filing season. I can certainly send them using the BSO but it is much easier if I c an just go directly from my QuickBooks account without the BSO.

W-2 efiling directly from QuickBooks

Hello there, @Tracy1960. Allow me to share some details about e-filing your W-2s directly to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Since you need to submit a W-2 form to the Social Security Administration (SSA.GOV), then yes, you’ll want to set up a Business Services Online (BSO) account.

The BSO account enables you to report employees' wages and verify their Social Security Numbers (SSNs). It's a crucial step in ensuring accurate payroll reporting and compliance.

You may want to consult the official documentation provided by the SSA or reach out to their support for guidance if you require help with the process. Moreover, you can visit the IRS website to obtain their contact information and then navigate to the SSA section.

Additionally, you can refer to these articles about e-filing within the product:

Let me know if you need further assistance regarding your tax forms. I'll be here to help you in any way I can. Have a great day!
