Why is payroll is generating paychecks in "Business Checking" non-existent account?

I'll make sure you generate paychecks using the appropriate payroll account in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Payroll, @mahomehealth77-g.

The bank account where your payroll transactions (paychecks) are posted depending on your setup. Your payroll settings will only display all accounts available from your Chart of Accounts. The Business Checking may have been set as the default account for your payroll that's why you've generated paychecks under it. To correct this, you'll have to update your payroll information. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Payroll settings
  3. Under Preferences, select Accounting.
  4. Go to the Bank Account section and choose the correct account in the drop-down menu.
  5. Once done, click OK.

Once done, you can delete and recreate the paychecks using the correct (existing) account. This way, your payroll data will be posted to the correct account.

To learn more about editing your current payroll preference, you can check out this article: Payroll accounting preferences.

In keeping with this, QuickBooks provides several payroll reports to get a closer look at your business's finances and employees. For the complete list of available reports, you can check out this article: Run payroll reports. It includes steps as to how you can access, customize, print, and marking them as your favorite.

Keep me posted on how it goes. Let me know in the comments if you have other payroll concerns in QBO. I'm always around to help. Take care and stay safe, @mahomehealth77-g.

Thanks Rea_M for quick reply. The payroll setting is correct; has the correct account. This was working correctly until about a month ago. No setup change was performed at the time. Also the payroll liability payments are posted to the correct account.

I am having the same issue and have spent hours on the phone with quickbooks.  Did you ever get this resolved?  I am a little disheartened to know this has been going on for so long.
