WR30 2nd Q 2021 Submit Error Due to Payroll Update

I did a payroll update on 7/1 to be able to submit the 941 without an error message. After doing the update, I was able to file the 941, but now I cannot file the WR30. It gives me an error message that I need the latest payroll update. I updated again multiple times, got an completion approval message, restarted QB, restarted my computer, but I still get the same error message. How do I get around this?

QB support please do not respond with instructions on how to do a payroll update. I know how and have done that multiple times with no change. Please respond with a real solution.

WR30 2nd Q 2021 Submit Error Due to Payroll Update

I can help you troubleshoot payroll update errors, ptheo.

Usually, when you update and get an error, you may receive an error that starts with the number. I'd like to verify if you got the number so I can walk you through the correct steps on how to troubleshoot.

You'll want to start with temporarily disabling an active antivirus in your computer. Then, try to download the latest payroll update. If the same thing happens, you can follow these steps:

  1. Download and install the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.
  2. Go to the Program Problems tab, then select Quick Fix my Program.
  3. Once done, reopen QuickBooks and your company file.
  4. Download and install the update again.

If the error persists, you can follow step 2 on this article: Fix error when updating Desktop or Payroll.

Let me know how this works so I can help you with it. Take care!

WR30 2nd Q 2021 Submit Error Due to Payroll Update

Hi Catherine,
Thank you for your response. I tried the Quick Fix Program and it didn't work. There is no error number with the message I get. The message is:

Problem: To file your return, you need the latest payroll updates.
Solution: Download the current payroll update by selecting the Employee Menu in QuickBooks and then selecting Get Payroll Updates.

I tried to do the 2nd solution you mentioned, but cannot find the update file. I did do another update from the Help menu, but that didn't work either. It only happens when I try to file the WR30. I can file the 941 with no problem.
Any further help would be appreciated.

WR30 2nd Q 2021 Submit Error Due to Payroll Update

I'm grateful for the update the you gave, @ptheo.

I wanna make sure that you'll be able to file the WR-30 form successfully in QuickBooks Desktop.

Let's try updating QuickBooks to the latest release. This can help the program up-to-date, so you always have the latest features and fixes. The software may not be updated, which hinders you from submitting the WR-30 form.

To do that:

  1. Go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to the Update Now tab.
  3. Select Get Updates to start the download.
  4. When the download finishes, restart QuickBooks.
  5. When prompted, accept the option to install the new release.

For more insights about the QuickBooks Desktop updates, please see this link: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

Once done, you can run the payroll update again and submit the form.

If the problem continues, I'd recommend reaching out to our Customer Care Team. They have the tools to check on your this matter further and apply a fix.

Here's how to contact them:

  1. Open QuickBooks
  2. From the Help menu at the top, choose QuickBooks Desktop Help
  3. In the search bar, enter Contact Us. Then, click on the Contact Us icon at the bottom.
  4. Choose which method you wish to speak with support (Chat, Callback, Etc.).

Lastly, I'm adding this article that you can read through to learn more about the New Jersey forms that you can file in QuickBooks and on how to fix some filling issues: New Jersey Payroll Tax Compliance.
