But I've tried probably 30 times (various times of day) and never reached anyone. Message is simply to call back a different day. Asked CPA to call on his "provider" line. He said their calls are no quicker right now than the business number above. The delay is a big topic on the CPA briefing conference calls. Offered tip to try on a Friday night when fewer callers. Uncertain if that's 7 or 8 p.m. Standard time. May the force be with you. This is unacceptable.
Hello!
We paper filed a 941X for Q1 2020 and one for Q2 2020 in March 2021 for a client - they just received the Q1 refund check on November 24th, 2021. So it looks to be about an 8 month turnaround for paper filed 941X's.
Does anyone know how long it is taking for a refund on an electronically filed 941?
Thanks for joining this thread, @Christyneyhart.
If you file your return electronically, your refund should be issued in less than three weeks, even faster when you use direct deposit. You can have a refund check mailed to you, or you may be able to have your refund deposited directly into your bank account.
If it has been at least four weeks since you filed your return, you can reach them through this page to know the status of your 941 refunds: https://www.irs.gov/help/telephone-assistance.

The electronic 941's only take a matter of weeks to process. I've been getting my refund checks within about 4 weeks of filing.
The electronically filed 941's have only been taking a few weeks to process. I've been getting my ERC refunds from them in no more than 4 weeks.
The paper 941's take much much longer to process. I sent one for Q2 2020 back in mid-March 2021. In talking with the IRS just last week my check is being cut this week, which puts it at 7 months since filing.
I don't know how you are able to file electronic 941x with the IRS. I have asked and been told directly by the IRS that they only except paper copies of the 941x.
Hey Freshman.. Any updates? Did you ever receive the refund?
Ditto. Filed 941X in June expecting 6-digit refund. Verified "opened" by IRS in July, began processing in September. Still nothing in response. Bobbled around in customer service from agent to agent. Am taking heart that others have said expect 8 months.
I haven't received anything. Going on 9 months for 2 credits and 1 credit was filed 8 months ago, the remaining were filed in November of 2021. I have been doing a little research lately and found out the IRS is 24 million returns behind (business and personal). In a typical year, they are only behind 1 million at this time. Best case scenario I've heard is that you may receive the credit refund in 12 months. Utterly ridiculous! Promised money by the government to keep people employed while shutdown, and getting VERY close to closing the doors because I haven't received any of the money. I continue to try and call the IRS, but cannot get through. I have even reached out to my state rep, and he claims to be "looking into it", but I don't expect much help there.
Best part I just learned from my accountant is that I will need to claim the ERC refunds on my returns for 2021 even though I haven't received any money. So basically, I need to pay tax on money that I have not seen yet, and really don't know if it actually exists.
Yes, the ERC takes forever to get when done with the 941X.
However, the ERC isn't taxable income so at least you won't pay tax on that money.
The money for the Q2 2020 ERC finally came on 12/13/21.
I paper filed the 941X in mid-March so the money came right at 9 month's from filing..... and they also paid some interest.
This is a note from my accountant regarding the taxability of the credit.
The rule is that you can’t deduct the payroll expense that you are getting the credit for, so yes, you are paying tax on it even if you don’t get it. Note, this is the same for 2020 and the credits you received for that year.
Officially at 11 months with no money in hand. Starting to believe this money is fictitious. If I don't receive some money soon, I will be forced to close the doors. Unbelievable how stupid this is! I have spoken with several friends who have also filed the the 941x and have not received a penny.
Here is a link to a very good article that sums up the whole ordeal.

Good news. I finally received 1 of my refunds in the mail. Oddly, it was one filed in May 2021, the 3 filed in April 2021 still have yet to arrive. The check stated it was 302 days from date of file.....at least they paid a little interest on it.
Has anyone received their refund for 2020 as a result of filing a 941-x? It has been over a year since we filed.
Have you received the 2020 refund yet?
Thanks for joining the thread, jddyak.
I understand how you feel, especially since you haven't received your 2020 refund. I can route you to the best support that can help you with this.
We're unable to tell you if someone has already received their 2020 refund for filing the 941 X form. I recommend contacting the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) directly. They have the tools to check the status of your refund and investigate the cause of the delay. You can visit this link to check the status and get their phone number: https://www.irs.gov/help/telephone-assistance.

Hi There,
Our company did not file for the refund when we filed our 941. However, I have seen a form 7720 for ERC and then saw that we shouldn’t use that form anymore. We’re considering filing now for those quarters we qualified for. How could we get this started? Thank you for your help!

Thanks for joining the thread, @SmileyWithChrist. I'll help you get started so you can proceed to file your form 720O.
Employers can request early payment of the tax credits under the FFCRA and CARES Act using the new IRS Form 7200. Please know that Intuit doesn't file this form. You'll have to complete and file this form yourself. You'll need to determine the outstanding tax credits and get a copy of the form, to complete Form 7200. I'll gladly input the complete steps below. To begin, here's how:
1. Go to the Reports menu.
2. Hover over Employees & Payroll, and then choose More Payroll Reports in Excel.
3. Click Payroll Summary by Tax Tracking Type.
4. Select Enable content.
5. Click the date range you are requesting the advance payment for, select Get QuickBooks Data.
6. Hit Payroll Summary by Tax Tracking Type.
7. Use the Tax Tracking Type drop-down to select only National Paid Leave and CARES Tax Tracking Types. (Unmark Select All to remove all selections).
8. Add the totals in the Amount columns (including the negative amounts as positives).
9. Determine your total credit:
Once done, these are the steps to create and complete the form:
1. Go to the Employees menu, and then select Payroll Center.
2. Click on the File forms tab.
3. Select Quarterly Form 7200.
4. Fill in all necessary fields, using the report and totals you calculated in Step 1 above to complete the form.
5. Print and fax to the IRS.
It's how you get this done. However, please be aware that the last day of filing Form 7200 was January 31, 2022. You'll want to reach out to our Payroll Support Team. This way, they can help get around it and file what form needs to be processed for your business.

No, SmileyWithChrist. You can no longer file Form 7200.
The last day of filing for Form 7200 was last January 31, 2022.
You need to file a 941-X to claim the ERTC. It should be noted that wages used for the ERTC become a disallowed deduction for income tax purposes and require filing amended income tax returns. For more details, go to the link: https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-941-x.
You may also consider contacting our Payroll support. This way, one of our agents can pull up your account and help provide applicable payroll adjustments and detailed instructions about filing 941-X.
