Im real disappointed at the lack of customer service with this issue. If your developers have known about the issue that seems to have been present for a few years now why have they not reverted to a previous system that was operational. Instead you leave an inoperable system online for us to all suffer with. As a new small business, I started my free 30 days and was honestly interested in your services until I encountered the w9 error, received multiple run around, hours on chat and phone with support only to discover this issue has been going on for way longer than it should have been

This is not brain surgery.  Instead of making thousands of people angry after years of the feature not working - TURN It OFF until you get it fixed.  Stop saying it's available to use, when clearly it is not.

Maybe if Intuit concentrated more on fixing the current issues instead of focusing on new features, it would be more beneficial to all your customers that have stayed with you throughout the years.

It's now May 28th.  5 months should be adequate time to fix even the most complex issue in software.  I worked as a product manager in the software industry for 40+ years and this would have been totally unacceptable to both our development team and our customers.  It's not rocket science to make a URL embedded in an email work.  From what I can see from my contractor's feedback, is that there is no link embedded in the email other than the marketing links in the bottom.

Welcome to the Community, @Socialbeadia.

I understand how convenient it is for your contractor to sign up for the W-9 form.

The stored files in your browser are typically the source of unexpected behavior or failures in QBO. Your cache saves the files from many websites you visit, so you can quickly load the pages the following time. The browsing speed of websites like QBO may be impacted if the cache is retaining too much data.

It's a good idea to check for issues brought on by a full cache when browsing anonymously because doing so prevents the cache from recording your browsing data.

  • Chrome: Press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox: Press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Press Command + Shift + N

If the steps above will not work, you can use supported browsers as an alternative.

If the given procedures are successful, I advise you to clear the cache in your browser to avoid utilizing outdated forms, safeguard your data, and improve the performance of our programs on your computer.

Once done, you can resend the invite to your contractor. You can read this article to help you with the process: Invite a contractor to add their tax info.

For future reference, if you want to learn how to pay a contractor with a paper check, refer to this article: Pay a contractor with a paper check.

Feel free to click the Reply button below if you need further assistance with W-9 form. I'm always here to help. Have a great day.

I’m not sure you understand the issue. It’s the contractor that’s having the issue, not me. The email you send has a blank link in it and doesn’t take them anywhere.

Hello,

Thank you for clarifying the problem here in the Community. Allow me to chime in and help with the issue related to entering contractor information for QuickBooks Online.

You can usually resolve the issue by refreshing the contractor's browser when accessing the email or resending another email invite. I recommend these solutions to get back on track.

If the problem persists, please proceed with contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. They'll be able to check your account in a secure environment and assist you further.

Our support for Plus, Essentials, and Simple Start is available from 6 AM - 6 PM PT (Monday - Friday) and 6 AM - 3 PM PT (Saturday). For Advanced, any time, any day. Here's how you can reach them:

  1. Click the Help tab in the upper-right corner.
  2. Go to the Assistant tab.
  3. Click Get help from a human.
  4. Choose Chat with us or Have us call you.

When your contractor submits their W-9, their info and a PDF of the signed W-9 will show to their profile in your account. I've attached an article you can visit to learn more about how you can check their account in QuickBooks: Invite a contractor to add their own tax info.

Feel free to hit that Reply button if you have additional questions about adding the contractor's info. We'll be sure to help. Have a great day ahead.

Really guys?  This feature has not been working correctly for years.  The only thing we can do is send a request for the contractor to complete the W9.  Unfortunately, there's nothing there for them to click on.

You then to tell us to have everyone clear their cache.  We do.  It still doesn't work.

Can we resend an invitation?  Absolutely not.

Fix it or TURN. IT. OFF.    PLEASE.

This is still broken. I have done as suggested and cleared the cache on my web browser, but that does not fix the problem. Additionally, I have logged in using the QBO desktop app and I have the same problem there as well.
On the Contractors page it shows that the W9 is ready. However, when I click into the contractor's profile and go to Documents it says "waiting for info."

I reached out to support and was basically told to not use the feature and that I would need to obtain the W9 outside of QBO.

We recently purchased QBO Payroll Elite and upgraded to QBO Advanced. Contractor system still does not work. The product's capabilities are severely oversold.

I'm using QB Core; the W-9 feature works for me, but I can't seem to get the direct deposit feature to work.

Hi AnneB8,

Let's ensure your issue with direct deposit gets resolved in a short time. With that, can you share more details about it? Did you get an error message when trying to use the direct deposit feature.

I'll keep an eye on your response.

Quickbooks it is a ridiculous and manipulative tool to force 1099 contractors to have to create a QBSE account to stop reminder emails and I should not have to wait for our subcontractors to upload their W-9 information in order to create 1099s for them from Quickbooks. Why is Quickbooks Online so controlling and manipulative? I have used Quickbooks for 30 years. Never have I been so frustrated and angry with it. The Quickbooks Online programmers have taken away so many controls and options to make it "user friendly for non-bookkeeper do-it-yourself business owners. SO FRUSTRATING!!!!! Simple things like being able to look at two screens at the same time side-by-side like we could do in Desktop.

Quickbooks programmers/designers, you don't have to dumb down Quickbooks. Educate and give people control over their own work and tools.

preach it.  So tired of QBO trying to turn small business owners into accountants and tying the hands of the accountants.  Apples to oranges people!!  STOP Upgrading sh*t that doesn't need to be upgraded and making it WORSE!!  More clicks, more time.  SLOWS down the accountants tremendously.

Just to add to this thread, I was having the same problem. The links in the email sent by the 'Request Contractor W-9 Info' werent working. The workaround for me was to open the link using the mail application on my iPhone. Then the links worked fine for some reason. They did not work using Outlook on a desktop or via Outlook Webmail. Just wanted to add that to this thread in case anyone else runs into the problem.
