Help -> Update QuickBooks Desktop -> Update Now -> Get Updates.
Dialogue indicates that it is downloading a critical fix (91457.52 Kbytes). Then it says Copying, then Update Complete.
Close QB, REBOOT computer, then open QB. Doing the same sequence above results in QB downloading the same critical fix, copying it, then saying "Update Complete". Obviously it is NOT applying the update. I've tried it many times so something is not working properly. Please help.
Hi, thanks for sharing your concern here.
I appreciate you going through the steps of updating your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). However, not being able to apply the update after it says "Update complete" sounds frustrating. Don't worry, let's work together to determine what causes the issue.
When obtaining the most updated release for QuickBooks Desktop, please enable the Reset Update option. It usually fixes issues related to any critical update and other possible errors within the product. In case you need the steps, here's how:
Moreover, every version of QuickBooks has its corresponding system requirements. For QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2023 (latest version), check out this link: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2023.
If you've tried the solutions above to no avail, it would be best to reach out to our QuickBooks Support Team. They have all the necessary tools to conduct a thorough investigation of your issue and find a way to fix this right away.

I did use the Reset Update option. That did NOT solve the problem.
My PC does meet the requirements for QB.
I guess I'm going down the support path...fingers crossed.
I contacted and worked with support via a screen sharing session. They observed this repeating update of the Critical Update. Using F2 we noted that my QB was reporting the most recent version R6_8.
I have been using QB For years and have never seen this situation (where the Critical Fix is repeatedly downloaded and, hopefully, applied) but the agent indicated this was an acceptable situation and that since my QB reported the most recent version that I could ignore the fact that every time I run Get Updates the Critical Fix is downloaded, copied, and hopefully applied.
IMHO, this functionality does not make sense, and certainly, isn't intuitive nor user friendly.
