I appreciate taking the time to use multiple browsers and computers, kirstin4.

It's great to hear that you're able to integrate Amazon into your QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) account. After connecting it, categorizing your business transaction would be easier for you.

You can split transactions between business and personal or multiple Schedule C categories. A caching issue may be the cause of why you get an empty popup window when splitting them. Let's try opening your QBSE account using an incognito or private window. This mode helps since it doesn't save any site data. Use the following shortcut keys below:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome).
  • Press Ctrl + Shift + P (Mozilla Firefox).
  • Press Command + Shift + N (Safari).

Then, try to split the transaction coming from Amazon. If it works, you can clear the cache to remove outdated files stored on your browser. Alternatively, download and install QuickBooks Self-Employed mobile app and then split the imported transaction from there. Go to the App store if you're using iOS or Google Play for Android devices. Once done, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu. On Android, select the menu ☰ icon and then Transactions.
  2. Find and select the transaction you want to split.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Select the Split option.
  5. In the Category column, choose  Personal or a Business category for each split.
  6. In the Amount column, enter the amount for each split.
  7. To add additional splits, hit Add line.
  8. Once done, select Save.
  9. Repeat the same process for the rest of your transactions.

Tried incognito as requested and even used a "brand new install of firefox" but it still does not work. Splitting in app is not an option as i have 50+ transactions to update and the amazon data does not show up there.

Hi there, @kirstin4.

Let's get you back to work by making sure you're able to split transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) without encountering any error like an empty popup window.

Since you've done performing the basic troubleshooting steps like clearing your browser's cache and using another supported browser, let's go ahead and verify if you've met the system requirements for QBSE since this can also impact QuickBooks' performance.

Here are the suggested internet speeds and operating systems:

  • Windows PC: Windows 10, Intel Core i5, or comparable processor (2015 or newer) with at least 4 GB of RAM. Note: You need Adobe Reader 11.0 or higher to print forms.
  • Mac: OS X "High Sierra" 10.13 or newer.
  • Internet connection: 3 Mbps or higher.

You can also use QuickBooks Self-Employed in a web browser on Linux operating systems.

Although the specs above are recommended, QuickBooks will run with the minimum operating systems and internet speeds.

However, if you still get an empty popup window when trying to split a transaction, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Customer Care Support to better find out the root cause of this issue and perform a secure screen sharing if needed.

In case you need help categorizing your transactions, feel free to browse through this article: Updates to expense categories in QuickBooks Self-Employed.
