Populating two files from a Quickbooks desktop version to Quickbooks online.  I cannot update the Quickbooks desktop because people are still using it.  So there's no option to export data from the desktop to the online software.

Thanks for reaching out and joining this thread, BS2757.

When moving your files from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO), it needs to be in a single user mode. To switch, here's what you'll need to do:

  1. Go to the File menu at the top.
  2. Choose Switch to Single-user Mode

Once done, you can now continue with the migration process by ensuring that QuickBooks is up-to-date and if your company file isn’t too big to export

To update, follow these:

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Go to the Update Now tab.
  4. Click Get Updates to start the download.
  5. When the download finishes, restart QuickBooks.
  6. Then accept the option to install the new release.

After that, here is the next step:

  1. Import your desktop file to QuickBooks Online.
  2. Make sure your books match.

For further guidance about importing your QBDT company file to QBO, see this resource: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions. I'm here to lend a hand. Take care and have a great day.
