I need to transfer my quickbook desktop to online. How do I go about it

Open your company file and hit CTRL 1 keys. How big is your Total Target?

Basically, you start the process from within your QuickBooks Online account.
QuickBooks Online has a tool for this, inside QuickBooks Online, there's a feature that helps you move your Desktop data. You'll need to update your Desktop software, so make sure it's the latest version. Follow the prompts as the online tool will guide you step-by-step.

Hi - We did all of the steps in your tutorial to convert from QB 2021 Pro Desktop to Online, and it did not work. The message we received was "There's not a QB version that can open the file".

Can you help with this please?

  We are currently using an older version of QBPro on an Apple computer. We would like to upgrade to the online version and migrate our data. What must we do to make the files compatible?

If you're using QBDT version 2022and later, you can follow these steps below:

1. Log in to your QBDT file using the admin account.
2. Open the File menu, then select Export and choose To QuickBooks Online. (You can also use the shortcut Shift + Command + D for quick access.)
3. Click Get Started.
4. Decide whether to export all your company file data or Export specific data.
5. If you use inventory, you can decide to include it in the transfer or exclude it.
6. If you already have a QBO account, you'll have to select Yes, sign me in, and enter your login details. However, if you don't have an account, you can click No, I need to create a new one, then set up your new account.
7. Select the QBO company to which you want to transfer the data, and then click Continue.

What QB Desktop year version do you run on your Mac?

What MacOS do you run?

I took my backup file from QB99 and attempted to upload/import to Quickbooks Online but of course it didn't seem to like the file.  My understanding is that I would need to do multiple conversions/imports to older Quickbooks versions until I can import it into Quickbooks online.  Any help or direction as to how I should or can do this would be appreciated!  Sorry, to jump into a separate conversation but was having trouble finding the help needed....  Thanks!

You're absolutely correct that multiple steps are needed to ensure your data can be successfully imported into QuickBooks Online.

Since QB99 is an older version, using a trial version of the latest QuickBooks Desktop product will help transition your backup file into a format compatible with QuickBooks Online, ensuring a smooth migration. After this process, you can restore your backup file. 

Once you've completed the process, you can move your file to QBO. However, ensure that your QBO account is empty and free of any existing data.

I had read that I would have to do multiple upgrades in different versions of Quickbooks Desktop before being able to create a backup file that could be used in QBO.  I'm more than willing to try the latest trial version of Quickbooks Desktop but just wondering before doing so if that is all that is needed?  Thanks again!

You can move your file to QuickBooks Online (QBO) without upgrading through multiple versions of QuickBooks Desktop. Using the trial version should work for the process.

However, I highly recommend creating two backup copies of your QB99 file. One for the upgrade and conversion, and the other one as a safety net in case anything unexpected happens. This ensures your original data remains secure throughout the transition.
