Yes, since you can pick a different printer and save it and other settings per thing you print, I think you can do this. I don't have a printer with multiple trays but if you do the driver will probably give you that option.
To do this, start at File | Printer Setup, then pick one of the types of things you print (checks or reports in your case) and then be sure the right printer is selected.
Then, click the Options... button next to it and QB will open the printer Properties window that is specific to that printer. If there is a tray setting, pick the desired tray.
Then repeat this process for the other type of things you print and pick the tray there as well.
Check to see if the setting is saved by opening one the Properties window for the other type of thing you're printing. Perhaps check again after restarting QuickBooks to make sure the setting sticks.

RE: At this time, there isn't a way to automatically choose a printer for separate actions in QuickBooks.
There is, and there always has been, for nearly three decades now. Each type of thing you print can be printed to a different windows printer to the same printer with different printer driver options set.
Because I use QuickBooks on a different PC and the Printer I use on that PC is on our Network, I wasn't able to utilize your suggestion. However, I realized that I needed to download the full Printer Program to that PC. Since doing the full Printer Program download, I now have all the Printer Options and your suggestion works perfectly.
Thank you! Liz
In quickbooks mac, there is no File>Printer Setup choice.
I have to manually select the tray every time I print a check. Quickbooks 2010 for pc let me auto print from the tray for checks and reports.
Isn't this feature in mac version? should be.
Good day, @stormin,
The Printer Setup feature is currently available for Windows versions of Quickbooks Desktop. For Mac users, you must select the tray one at a time when printing the transactions.
Here are some tips to make your printing in QUickBooks Mac easier.
Having the option to set multiple trays for different forms is a great idea to have in Mac versions of QuickBooks. I'm personally sending this request to our developers for evaluation.

Tori, Does this setting memorize the tray associated with the setting? so, in your example, if select checks, select my printer, drill down to what tray, is it going to memorize that for every time I print checks to pull from that tray?
Thanks for joining this thread, @kevmann. As mentioned by our all-star contributor @BigRedConsulting, the driver may give you the option to save the settings.
You'll want to print checks or documents and pick the desired tray. Then, print another one and check to see if the setting is saved by opening the Properties window of the document you're printing.
You may also want to follow @support31 suggestion to download the full printer program to your computer so you'll have all the printer options and utilize it.
