multi user mode

We currently have two QuickBooks licenses on two computers.  We currently run QuickBooks premier 2020 with the two licenses.  Both computers are able to work in multiuser mode.  Our company file is located on sinology NAS drive (file sharing server).  We have been working that way for over a year.  We just upgraded one of our computers and installed QuickBooks 2020 onto the new computer.  The issue that we're having is that the QB on the new computer is only able to work in single user mode.  We had the same issue two years ago and we contacted QuickBooks tech support with this same issue, and they were able to resolve it.  When we called tech support this time, they told us to install QuickBooks database server manager, which we did.  They tried to browse for our company file but since it's located on a NAS drive, it doesn't give the option to scan that folder and they weren't able to help us. What other option can we try?  Perhaps we got a technician who is not very skilled but right now we can't figure out how to fix our problem.  How do we get the QB on the new computer to open in multiuser mode?

multi user mode

Hi there, ybukhman1

Allow me to help and ensure your multi-user network is properly set up.

On a multi-user network, one computer hosts your company files. This is your server computer. Computers that connect to your network that don't host your company files are called work stations.

Here are the following reasons why QuickBooks multi user mode isn't working:

  • QuickBooks is not installed on the server.
  • Possibly that the hosting settings are not properly configured.
  • Firewall or antivirus software is not allowing communication between user computers.
  • The database server is unable to open the company file.
  • Windows file permissions are not properly set.

To fix this, we need to perform some troubleshooting steps. First, check your server computer's folder permission. This way, we can make sure that the folder holding your company file has the right Windows permission to be shared over the multi-user network.

Second, ensure that the QuickBooks Database Server Manager is installed on your server computer. You also need to map the drive if your company file is stored on a network drive.

After that, adjust your Windows firewall and security settings so your QuickBooks and Database Server Manager can be run on your network.
