Is there any solution to this or is QuickBooks Online still working on this (or deciding if it is important to its customers).  This would be particularly handy.  I need to do the same thing.

You'll want to edit the customers in QuickBooks Online manually, for now, Matt121.

I also suggest sending feedback. It will be submitted directly to our engineers. It will help them know how many users want this feature. The more request the feedback has, the more likely it'll be added to future updates. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback.

You can also check the latest news about QuickBooks and what our Product Care Team is working on through our blog.

We're just around if you have other concerns. Feel free to post in the Community anytime.

This discussion is almost 3 years old and the feature still doesn't exist which is incredible, and totally frustrating. This is a highly desired/needed function. It seems clear that this is too difficult for Quickbooks Online to figure out, or they just don't care to try.

This isn't the impression that I'd like for you to be left with, @etw204.

Rest assured that I'm making it my top priority that your suggestion reaches our Development Team. Feedbacks will really depend on the number of requests by other users. Thus, it''' take time for our Developers to evaluate and implement this.

I recommend sending suggestions through this link: https://feedback.qbo.intuit.com/

The more request the feedback has, the more likely it'll be added to future updates. You can also view the recently added ideas in the feedback link.

Feel free to mention my name if you have other questions or ideas that'll help us provide what's best for our users. Have a good one.

Update customer information by importing

Had I known that QBO has completely failed the people who use this platform, by not providing an adequate method to import customers in a usable format, and also to edit customer info in a streamlined manner, I never would have purchased it.  I have over 2,000 customers, I will have to manually open, one at a time, to have the drop down for "Display As" to show the company name rather than the customer name.  Right now, QBO is worthless to me.

People have been complaining for over 3 years, and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has been done to help out the end users.

Shame on you Intuit.

Any updates on the future of this feature? We are disappointed with the lack of it.

I can share some information about updating your customer information by importing, @GLP2020.

You can import your customers' list in QuickBooks Online (QBO). However, please take note that imported lists will not replace the old information but will add up to the existing lists on file.

Check the following information in your spreadsheet before importing to QBO:

  • The column headers are in the first row.
  • Your contacts are on Sheet1 of the spreadsheet.
  • The spreadsheet doesn't have any formulas, charts, or blank rows.
  • The spreadsheet doesn't have any errors, such as #REF!#NAME?#N/A, or #VALUE!.
  • The names don't contain colons (:) or quotation marks (").

Here's how to import the file:

  1. Go to the Gear icon ⚙ and select Import Data.
  2. Click on Customers and select Browse to upload the file from your computer. Choose the file, and select Open.
  3. Select Next.
  4. Match your field to the corresponding QuickBooks Online field.
  5. Follow the prompts.
  6. Once done, click on Import.

You can refer to this article for more information on how to your customers list in QBO: Import customers or vendors from email contacts to QuickBooks Online.

For visual reference about updating your customer's address and any other information, check this article: Edit customer information.

Here's also an article to answer the most commonly asked questions about importing data to QBO: FAQs about importing data to QuickBooks Online. It includes topics about other lists that you can import to QBO.

Let me know if you need further help updating your customer information by leaving a reply below. Keep safe and have a wonderful day!

Thanks for the information. That part was already clear, though. This thread is about the ability to replace the old information. Will we ever get this feature? Employees have said in this thread that they are forwarding the request to the developer.

Thanks for getting back with the Community, GLP2020.

I can certainly understand how an ability to replace customer details with imported information could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.

You can also submit your own feature requests while signed in.

Here's how:

  1. Use the Gear (⚙️) icon.
  2. Click Feedback.
  3. Enter your suggestions and/or comments.
  4. Hit Next.
  5. Choose Skip and send message.
  6. The available drop-down menu can be used to pick an appropriate category.
  7. Select Send message.

Your feedback's definitely valuable to Intuit. It will be reviewed by our Product Development team and considered in future updates. Since these are requests, there's no guarantee the feature being requested will be created. You can stay up-to-date with the latest news about your product by reviewing Intuit's Product Updates webpage.

If there's any additional questions, I'm just a post away. Have a great day!

Is there any update on this feature being added to QBO? This seems like a big miss and also has me looking at Sage as an option for our company.

There are a number or reasons why mass updating a list of contacts by mass uploading another list of contacts is an outdated idea.  The solution is through an API.  My fav is zapier.

We run zaps from Hubspot to QBO seamlessly upon trigger=contact update, deal closed/won, or quote paid. We also send closed/won deals that paid to QBO as created invoices that are paid too.

You can set this up more simply with a google sheet to QBO zap. Triggers are the same. Cost is nearly free.

Anyone wants help setting this up so that their QBO data matches and external dataset lmk I will show you in a screencast.

Hope this helps. Cheers and happy holidays.

Can QBO update (not add) customer data yet? I'm still on QuickBooks Desktop and this thread is not encouraging me to switch to QBO. With that said, I cannot even tell how to do it on Desktop, but I thought QBO would have more features.

Hello there, @PWIA.

Currently, importing data to QuickBooks Online (QBO) will not update the old customer information. However, it'll add up to the existing lists.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under Tools, select Import data.
  3. Select Customers and select Browse to upload the file from your computer.
  4. Choose the file, and select Open.
  5. Select Next.
  6. Match your field to the corresponding QuickBooks Online field.
  7. Follow the prompts.
  8. Once done, click on Import.

You can refer this link for more information on how to import your customers list in QuickBooks: Import customers or vendors from email contacts to QuickBooks Online.

Visit this article to enter, edit, delete, or merge customers in QuickBooks: Add and manage customers in QuickBooks Online.

Literally no one cares about this out of date method you keep on pushing and posting about.

Everyone wants what we have been COMPLAINING ABOUT for the last 5 years now. This is absolutely ridiculous and the fact QuickBooks has NOT listened to ANY OF THE FEEDBACK that you keep telling everyone to submit is hands down irresponsible. Do you guys get off on our frustrations or what? Because all you guys at QuickBooks seem to do is give everyone the run around and not ACTUALLY FIX PROBLEMS OR DO ANYTHING.

Like what do you guys do all day for the past 5 years anyways? Having the balls to increase pricing when the features we REALLY WANT DO NOT EVEN EXIST? QuickBooks should be ashamed of themselves honestly. What a joke.

I saw an update that leads me to believe we can mass update now.  However the instructions reference "edit" and that is not an option.  I only have "create"

It won't let me post a link for the instructions so I went to quickbooks support
and  searched for

Add and edit multiple customers, vendors, and items

(I'm going to try the link without the hyperlink below)

I appreciate your diligence in searching for a way to update customer information in bulk, @PreferredComm. I'm excited to help you unlock the full potential of QuickBooks and streamline the process of mass-updating your customers' information.

First, it's important to note that the article you shared is for QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) users. The article focuses on updating customer information by double-clicking the individual customer in the customer details page, rather than providing a dedicated Edit option.

To easily mass-update your customer's information in QBDT, you can edit it directly within the customer details page by following these steps:

  1. Go to Lists in the main menu.
  2. Open the Add/Edit Multiple List Entries window.
  3. Select the List drop-down arrow and choose customers.
  4. Proceed to edit the customer's information by double-clicking each item.
  5. Once done, hit on Save Changes.

I've shared a screenshot for your reference:

image.png

If you're a QuickBooks Online (QBO) user, while it doesn't have a built-in tool to mass update customers, there are alternative solutions that can help streamline this process. Some third-party providers offer apps with QuickBooks Online to provide bulk editing capabilities.

To look for a third-party app, here's the detailed steps:

  1. Go to the Apps menu on the left navigation bar.
  2. Click on the Find Apps tab.
  3. Search for the app you wish to connect to in the search bar or select the Browse category drop-down to search for an app by category.
  4. Select the app you wish to download.
  5. Hit on Get App Now.
  6. Authorize the app to connect to your QBO.
  7. Follow the remaining steps to connect and set up the app settings of your choice.

You can manage all third-party app connections in the My Apps tab.

I'll share these additional resources about managing third-party app integrations within QBO.

I'm all ears and ready to help again if you have inquiries about updating customer info in bulk. You can add any other questions and concerns about any areas in QuickBooks Online by adding a reply below or creating a new post. Always here to help.
