Does anyone know how I can get the R4 update of my QB 99 to load properly in Windows 10?
QuickBooks Desktop 1999? I'm not sure you can install an ancient product on Win 10 natively Consider to purchase a non subscription license to upgrade your version and run it on Win 10..
I'll gladly route you to the appropriate support team to upgrade your company file so you can get the R4 update of your QuickBooks 99, Hifin.
Please note that QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) operates on a three-year life cycle. To access the R4 update for QuickBooks 99, you need to upgrade your company file to the latest version. To do that, I recommend reaching out to our Data Services team since they have the tools necessary to transfer your data from an older version to the current one.
To reach them, please refer to the first section of this article: QuickBooks Data Services FAQ.
Once done, you can check the release updates using this article as your guide: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.
Moreover, you can manage your QuickBooks account and services using the Customer Account Maintenance Portal (CAMP) to find relevant information about your subscription.
Please know we're only a few clicks away if you have other questions about updating your QuickBooks 99. We'll be happy to help anytime. Stay safe.
Your solution requires me to contact the Data Services Team, which I assume is closed on the weekend. You also suggest I subscribe to a Desktop subscription. All I want to do is get my ancient QB 99 to work without the 5 trials before I have to reregister it. When I had a company, it worked fine, and even when I first put it on a Windows 10 machine, it worked. Now I have to reenter my license #s each 5 times. I thought if I reran the update R4 it would work all the time and not require a new license # login. But I will see if Intuit or the Data Service Team will help. I'm not sure how to go about it other than a phone call.

You mention I can manage my QBDT account and services using the CAMP to find information about my subscription. I don't own or want QuickBooks DeskTop. I own QB 99 and have a full registration and password that works. I have used it since buying it last millennium. But for the past few years I can only get the 5 trial uses before I have to reenter the password. I think what I need from Intuit is a file to fix the registration, the ability to run the LATEST update again, or someone on that end to fix it so I don't have to continually reenter my password.

BTW I just got an email message saying I changed my phone number. What I did was to log into a SECOND hifinsword account that said was created in 1969. That would be impossible since I don't think even QBs was around then and I was just out of high school. That phone # was different than mine so now I guess I have 2 Hifinsword accounts. Both should have the same phone number and the user name in 1 is Hifinsword and the other is Hifin Sword. They are both me.

I'm not sure Data Services can't upgrade your files. Another option, you can try contacting a third-party service provider.
I hear you, HifinSword. I'm here to share information to address your queries. I also want to redirect you to the appropriate support.
I know how important it is for a business to have your data conveniently accessed. Windows 10, as a newer, supported operating system, secures your QuickBooks data and protects it from malware. And our notification systems are doing this by prompting password requests, hence why have had to enter your password whenever accessing QB 99.
I understand you want to install the latest release version of QuickBooks Desktop Pro 1999. However, as my colleague mentioned above, QuickBooks Desktop has a three-year lifecycle, and QBDT 99 has long been discontinued and has not been receiving updates.
I'd also like to share that QuickBooks Desktop 2021 software (and prior versions) was discontinued after May 31, 2024. This article will go through the policy in detail. Please feel free to give it a read anytime: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.
