2018 to 2021 quickbooks upgrade not working need help / advice

(Verisons are 2018 and 2021 desktop)

 

Hello all. I am new to quickbooks, less than 2 years with software as well as less than 2 years with company. 

 

I am trying to upgrade 2018 to 2021 version but having issues. As mentioned I am new and only have 2 years or less with company. When I downloaded 2021 on to a new laptop ( old one was not comparable) it asks for an admin password. I do not have this password and my boss is pretty useless when it comes to the financial devision of the company. How would I go about updating qb or getting the password or a reset. I have the email of the lady (mary) before me who did the QB stuff. But I am not sure if the original bookkeeper ( valarie) has the password or what's I can do. I feel very locked out of somthing I should be in charge of and spent 3 + hours already trying to update 2018 -2021. Thanks for help

The Admin credentials are normally the ones who set up QuickBooks for the first time. If you don't have the old primary admin's info, you'll want to fill up the Primary Principal change form. This way, you can create your new Admin credential and password. Below are the requirements.

 

  1. Complete Primary Principal change form.
  2. A request letter signed by all principals on the company letterhead explaining the reason for the principal change.
  3. Photocopy of the new principal's government-issued ID.
  4. Contact QuickBooks Desktop Support to submit the form and other requirements above via Intuit File Exchange.

Once you have the new Admin credentials, upgrade your QuickBooks again. Refer to this article for details: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Enterprise.
