Hi mocollett1,
I'm glad you reached the Community for help. Let's get this sorted out so we can resolve the error message that you're getting.
Are you getting the error message when opening QuickBooks? If so, it's possible that a webpage issue is preventing you from doing this since QuickBooks uses Internet Explorer as the default browser.
In this case, let's try configuring your Internet Explorer by following the steps below:
Keep me posted on how things go once you've tried the steps. I'm always here to help.
i have been getting the error as well. @JaneD your steps to fix did not work.
i did the settings, restarted qb and still got the error. It is happening when the "Do More With Quickbooks" window is loading and stops. Attached is screen shot.
Mine is showing a URL of https://a166211981.cdn.optimizely.com/client_storage/a166211981.html and going to that website and viewing the source shows me data for quickbooks/intuit.

I receive the same error message as MrDistro, and the fist poster, when Quickbooks 2016 is opening company file.
If you were able to get it resolved, What were the steps you took with Intuit via phone call? Sharing them would be beneficial for me and possibly others.
I have added *.optimizely.com and *.intuit.com to the trusted sites and switched "Default App" to chrome. Running on Windows 10.
Thank you for any assistance you could provide.
Thank you
Thanks for joining this thread and for sharing your workaround, lovelife1417.
Let's work together to get rid of the Script Error so you can successfully open your company file.
If adding the optimizely.com and intuit.com as your trusted site doesn't work for you, we can try using a different browser to check if it's the browser that's causing this Script Error.
If the error persist, I suggest getting in touch with our Care Support Specialist. This way, they'll be able to take a closer look and investigate why you're getting the error message.
Here's how you can reach them:
Should there'll be anything else I can help you with while working with your QuickBooks Desktop company file, just let me know. I'll be on the lookout for your reply.
Hello. I have started receiving this script error message the past 24 hours when I open Quickbooks:
An error has occurred in the script on this page.
Line: 7
Char: 561
Error: Unable to get property 'length' of undefined or null reference
Code: 0
URL: https://a166211981.cdn.optimizely.com/client_storage/a166211981.html
I added https://a166211981.cdn.optimizely.com as a Trusted Site and followed the rest of the directions, but this hasn't stopped the script error message from popping up whenever I start Quickbooks. Any help would be appreciated!
This error is happening to a client of mine and is recorded multiple times in your help forums. To be clear, this is not a problem in the web version of Quickbooks. It is the 2017 desktop version.
Why would you not refer this problem to your developers and have them fix it? Also , for all the people that you have referred to your phone support, what is the answer that is given them? Surely someone has received an answer that works.
Aside from that there are a number of issues here. 1) Adding intuit.com to safe sites can't fix a problem that's coming from optimizely.com. 2) Why are you using Internet Explorer in the first place? It is a dead and insecure platform that Microsoft has relegated to the dustbin 3) Making a site "safe" won't fix a script error 4) What in the world are you doing running scripts from a third party web site in a financial program like Quickbooks? This might mean that Quickbooks is trusting optimizely.com with all it's customers' data.
I also have two clients reporting the same message with the
https://a166211981.cdn.optimizely.com/client_storage/a166211981.html URL in the error

I am getting this same exact error message. Line 7, Char: 561. It's been happening for the last few days. I'm using Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2018.
I am getting this same script error..just started happening yesterday, whenever I open quickbooks
Great to see you here in the Community today, @NikkiNik1,
Allow me to chime into this conversation.
Have you tried the recommended resolution provided by my peer@JaneD above this thread? If you haven't, I'd suggest doing that first. The script error you're getting occurs when Internet Explorer is not the default browser set for QuickBooks.
To get past this, you'll need to make Internet Explorer as your default browser. Once done, you'll need to configure the default browser's internet settings. You can follow the steps below:
However, if you already performed all these steps but still getting the same issue, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Phone Care Support. There they can review the QBwin.log of your company file to identify what's causing the unexpected hitch. Here's how you can contact us:
Please update me on how this goes, @NikkiNik1. I want to make sure you're taken care of. Thanks for your time today!
Make IE the default browser??? Really? In almost 2019, with even Microsoft abandoning IE long ago?
I took the more sensible approach and blocked web traffic to optimizely.com, which appears to be some kind of tracking analytics solution.
Hello there, @tekedgeconsulting.
I appreciate the input you added in this thread. I can share some information about making Internet Explorer as the default browser.
To provide greater security and stability, all connections used by QuickBooks Desktop to access Intuit services are designed for use and compatibility with Internet Explorer. We must set IE as the default browser for QuickBooks Desktop so all updates are automatically installed. This will refrain you from getting the error in QuickBooks.

Don't hesitate to leave a comment below if you have other concerns related to QuickBooks. I'd be happy to help further. Have a good one.
I found this walk through, basically it disabled the "How to do more with quickbooks" box or it lets you change it to something else. That is where the error is coming from. Enjoy the read. Should work.

Has anyone been getting corresponding Application event log errors? We're seeing the optimizely script error on one workstation at one customer, and the event log shows a series of Event 4 errors:
An unexpected error has occured in "QuickBooks Desktop: Premier Retail Edition 2017": Got unexpected error 5 in call to NetShareGetInfo for path \\server\location
An unexpected error has occured in "QuickBooks": CLacerteTaxQueryLaunch::initLacerteList - m_LacerteInfo's CoCreateInstance FAILED and returned : -[removed]
An unexpected error has occured in "QuickBooks Desktop: Premier Retail Edition 2017": Exception opening/reading company file during Syb 16 engine on Syb 17 company file check
Adding optimizely.com to trusted sites did not work, trying to avoid having to call in at all costs.
Hello DaveTheFirst,
Thanks for reaching out to us in the Community. I want to make sure you'll be able to get rid of the script errors in QuickBooks Desktop.
We can follow the basic troubleshooting added by my colleagues on this thread. Let's make Internet Explorer as the default browser and configure the settings.
The steps below will show you how to customize the browser:
After setting your browser as default, we'll need to configure your Firewall settings to ensure the internet access we need for the program will go through without any problems.
To configure the Firewall, you can follow the outlined steps in this article: Configure Firewall and Internet security settings for QuickBooks Desktop.
If the problem continues after following the steps above, we need you to give us a call to fix the issue. Our Phone Support Team will be able to verify your account and need to perform some additional troubleshooting.
There are also some users affected with some script errors in QuickBooks Desktop. You can provide them the investigation number INV-23895 for them to check if they need to include you to the list of affected users.
Here's how:
I'm here anytime you need further assistance with the error happening on your end. You can reach out to the Community team by posting a response.
Jen thank you for your response and pardon my delay. Last week when I opened QuickBooks I was prompted to download the latest update, and I have not experienced any error messages since. Thank you again.
QuickBooks added the Live Community feature to enable people to get answers from the online Intuit Community Forums. For some people this slows things down, and it requires an Internet connection. If you want to turn this feature off select Edit then Preferences, select the Desktop View preference, and un check the show live community box.
regards,
wekesa
Your Phone Support is one of the worse in the Industry. It is staffed with the most incompetent technical support personnel that any software company I work with. Your outsourcing this off shore shows just how much you really care about your customers.
Hi AEIILLC,
We have rolled out a new support experience and will send a feedback about this to our Support Team for the changes.
If you need help with anything else, please know that the Community space is always here for you. Feel free to swing by anytime.
